    Windows 10 updates stuck at 91% for 7 hours

    Microsoft was of no help to me at all (yet again). Pointing at others, in this case 3rd party antivirus software is a typical attempt to hide their own incompetence.

    Another few hours of productivity lost thanks to Microsoft!

    Simplifying updates for Windows 7 and 8.1

    Windows XP/Vista/7 actually didn't take long to search for updates until Windows 10 launched. Then bam, one core to 100% load for hours.

    Got around XP's brokenness by using a 3rd party script to build a Windows Update installer that Microsoft refused to just make available for download. Then Windows Update broke completely in XP because of a security certificate expiring. They eventually got that fixed but Windows Update Agent, as far as I know, still needs to be rebuilt from scratch because it is still not available.     Vista has to sit for about 6-8 hours when it used to be maybe an hour, tops.

    Windows 7 has to sit for at least 12 hours when it used to be an hour or two--and this is with Service Pack 1 installed from image.

    I'm positive it isn't merely a coincidence because it's not like 100 updates came out in a month. Each additional update shouldn't add more than a minute to discover. If memory serves, there are about 250 updates for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. 2 hours tops, like it was. Now it's taking many minutes per update. Definitely deliberate.

    When in win10:
    • Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....
    Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
    - Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.
