Windows 10: My Xbox One controller - wired via USB - doesn't work in games after the computer...

I'm running Windows 10 and I have an Xbox One controller connected via USB. I don't currently have a wireless receiver.


When first connected, this works normally. It appears in 'Set up USB game controllers' and it works in games.


Once the computer is put to sleep and resumed, it does not work:

• It's present but input is not recognised in the 'USB game controllers' UI
• It's present (games recognise it being unplugged) but input is not recognised in games
• In the 'Xbox Accessories' app for Windows 10, you can enter test mode, and this does recognise all input
• The Xbox logo on the device remains illuminated

Unplugging/reconnecting the device doesn't resolve the issue, nor does disabling/re-enabling it in Device Manager. The only solution at the moment is to restart the PC, which will make it work consistently until the next time.


All other USB devices behave correctly.


I'm a software engineer, I'm experienced with Windows and I've looked into this to some extent. For example, I've tried restarting the HID service and looking for other relevant services and processes.


What can I try to diagnose or resolve this?

Xbox One wired Controller doesn't work. Only with GOW


As title says. My Xbox One wired Controller works great with all games I have, except for Gears of War.
Any suggestion?

The drivers for Xbox 360 Controllers are automatically installed on Windows 10. If your Xbox 360 wired controller is not detected by your PC, try plugging it into a different USB port, and then test it again.

We also suggest that you install all the critical and important updates on your computer by following the steps on this

Xbox 360 wired USB controller not working but connecting

So I am trying to use a Xbox 360 Wired USB controller, I plug it in, the PC recognizes that and gives that little tone, but I get no notification of the drivers being installed. According to Microsoft it is supposed to happen automatically with windows 10.
The controller itself says its connected because the top left green light is on and not flashing. When I try to use the remote in a game or in the Xbox app nothing works and it is not recognized. I also checked USB devices and nothing is listed, but it might
just be because remotes don't show in there. Is there anything I can do to get the thing to actually work on the PC or is this a lost cause.

Update- I just went into the device manager and the controller is listed as unknown device, I uninstalled the device and plugged it back in where the PC then recognized it and said we will set up the device. it then said it could find no drivers to install
and it is listed as an unknown device and I cant update the drivers nor will it recognize the remote.
