Windows 10: MYST the game old setup discs

I found a 20 year old set of discs for the game Myst and got very nostalgic.I am by no means a gamer, in fact I can't remember playing any video games above chess/solitaire in years, but would love to take a fond look back at it to see what I've forgotten... and remember the fun of playing it.I have heard rumors that it could actually crash Win10/11 but could find no definitive answers.I was thinking of purchasing a new set of setup discs from Amazon, but could get no concrete answers to the question at hand.Anyone know for sure?

The game which you are playing on previous operating system might run or play as expected since the game is old version. So, I suggest you try installing the game in compatibility mode and check. If you are unable to play the game you may contact Game
manufacturer.

  Right-click on the setup file of the game and select Properties.
  
• 
  Select Compatibility tab.
  
• 
  Check Run this program in Compatibility mode.
  
• 
  Let the game install and then check the functionality.

where's myst?

Do you already have some Myst games on disc ? If so, are you having a problem running or installing them ?

The earlier versions used Safedisk copy protection, and because of a 'security' feature MS built into Win10 relating to Safedick you need

to use a noCD fix\hack for all disc based games that use Safedisk. More details in my post at

btw - As with all online game retailers -GOG-
have frequent so called 'sales' when you can get games at the right price.

The Myst games are currently at the jacked up 'RRP', but you should be able to get the earlier versions for 60-75% 'off' when on sale.

 

Myst V on Windows 10

This issue might occurs, if the game is not installed properly.

I suggest you to Uninstall the game and install it again and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps to install the game.

1) Press Windows key + x and select Program and features.

2) Right click on the Myst V, End of Ages
and click on Uninstall.

Download the game from the manufacturer's website and install it again.
