  1. Mysterious Programs Running at Startup

I sporadically get unexpected "need to update" warnings from various programs. Right now, the laptop on which I'm typing this message gave a warning, after waking up from hibernation, from "Auslogics Driver Updater" asserting that several drivers need updating.

I don't see this program in my list of programs, from either the Control Panel "programs" applet, nor from IOBit Uninstaller. I don't find it in the startup programs, nor do I see it buried in Task Scheduler. Ditto for services.msc unless it's named something I'm not noticing.

Other programs that I do recognize behave similarly: sporadic "program can be updated" warnings yet no sign of them in the startup items , the task scheduler, or the services..

What am I overlooking?: How else can something be auto-initiated? These are x64 Win10 pro machines.

  2. program trying to run on startup

Using File Explorer, navigate to Windows/StartUp. Look in that folder to see if there is a link to the program you uninstalled. Delete it if it is there.

program trying to run on startup

I installed enAlarmPPC software some time ago, and uninstalled it in a few days.

Now, every time I reboot my device, message pops up "can not run enAlarmPPC.exe...".

Obviously, some left over from the application are still on my device.

I search file system (using File Explorer) and registry - could no find anything with enAlarm in it.

Does anybody know where else can I search to find out what is trying to run non existing software on start up?

Is there way to get to Windows Services?

    I'm using i760 Samsung phone.

    Windows version is CE 5.2.979

    please help?

  4. Mysterious Programs Running at Startup

    Hi Art.

Didn't read to many good things about this. Saw a video on youtube on how to uninstall. Looks easy enough when you know where to look. Seems to be a cousin of Boostspeed or something. Someone must have installed something in some pop up and away it went.

It is likely being run right from your registry. Download and install Autoruns from Sysinternals

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/.../bb963902.aspx

This will show you everything that is going to run. There will be a lot. Hopefully it will be named closely. Before messing with registry have a restore point and I would also recommend an Image. System restore has not been 100% for some reason.

Autoruns is quite powerful, ask google or the forum before disabling things. I don't profess to know every started item.

  5. While my assertions and question holds true for several programs, it turns out - upon clicking on the Auslogics message and reading the message in the resultant window - that this is for a REMOTE machine - my Windows Home Server box. The message must be being broadcast to all the machines in my home network.

Anyway, that's a great idea - I hadn't used Autoruns in quite some time; I'll download it and see what it says. Thanks for the suggestion.

  6. I would definitely remove after reading articles. There was even some questions as to whether they are a partner with MS.

One opinion on drivers. Drivers should be kept current but they shouldn't be updated for the sake of updating.

You'll need to run it on your Windows Home Server box, as that's where it appears to be installed. This is seemingly verging on malware, you could usefully scan with AdwCleaner.

Of course. It was a routinely-installed program on the WHS box, so as I have another sporadically-run driver check program on that box, I simply removed it. Still have to look to see if Autoruns finds some of the other unexpectedly-run programs on the other machine(s).
