    Mystery files hogging a huge chunk of my drive space?


    Hi all, I recently ordered a custom gaming PC. Received it and all, but I realized that a giant portion of my SSD was already in use by files I can't find. Image below is taken from WinDirStat. Everything in PF x86 is from programs downloaded after receiving. Everything in the Unknown category was already taken up when I first booted. Any idea where the heck these files are? I've already deleted system restore points and all that. Is there any simple way to find a solution to this problem?

    Hi,

    We want to know more details about the issue that you’re experiencing with the huge drive space and CPU usage. Please provide us the following information:

    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
    • During what activity does the CPU get the highest usage?
    • Have you made any recent changes to your computer prior to this issue?

    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
      • Used procexp, perfmon and resmon to see what msmpeng.exe was doing; (only read/write to it's own db, db-shm, and dh-wal files)
    • During what activity does the CPU get the highest usage?
      • Any and all activity, start immediately after a reboot.
    • Have you made any recent changes to your computer prior to this issue?
      • Started after upgrade to Build 16232 on the slow release of Windows Insider.
    Today msmpeng.exe crashed and Windows Defender is saying "Threat service has stopped. Restart it now." and is asking me to click the restart now button. I checked my drive and I only have ~300MB free. I assume the process crashed after it ran out of
    space. The db-wal file is 142GB. Attempts to open the db file in SQLite Browser asks for the encryption key which I don't have.

    I tried to execute copying a recent ISO file from macrium to dvd rw disc..and somehow lost a lot of memory on C..what happened? and now trying to find cause on own but cant.. I need that back.*Shock
