    Name in File Explorer

Since doing a clean install, my name in File Explorer/Users has changed. It is neither my first nor second name, just the first 5 letters/numbers of my Microsoft login name.

It used to show my surname in Windows 7.

Is is it possible to change it, please?

    :)

  3. File Name In file Explorer

    Hi TheBigGuy777,

You can rename multiple files in Windows Explorer. If you’re renaming a bunch of files in the same folder and those files don’t need completely different names from one another, Windows provides an easier way to rename those files in batch. Start by selecting
a bunch of files. You can hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple files at once, or
Shift to select a range of files. When you’ve got the files selected, use one of the rename commands — the button on the
Home menu, the command on the context menu, or just press F2. You’ll see that all the files remain selected, but the first one in the group gets its name highlighted so you can type a new name.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.
I have now set up a local account using my first name and then changed it to a Microsoft account, using my usual email address and password.
Can I now delete the original profile with the unwanted account (detailed in my original question)?
Will this be possible as I set up my clean installation with my Microsoft account?
I don't suppose I can merge them so that I have all my settings?

    Further reply!
having watched the video about converting a local account to a Microsoft account, I realise that I did not get the option to get a text message. In fact, after restarting the computer, I see that I still have the local account. Is this because there is already a Microsoft account registered to this machine?

You cannot have two Windows 10 user accounts on the same PC using the same MS account email. The easiest way to do what you want to is this:

    • Switch your old MS account to a local account (disconnect it from the MS account)
    • Create a new local account with your preferred name. Be sure to make this new local account an administrator account!
    • Sign in to your new local account
    • Copy your documents, images, music, videos etc. (all personal data) from the original, old Windows user profile to your new local account profile folder's corresponding subfolders
    • Switch your new local account to an MS account
    • You can now remove the original, old user profile

The most important thing to remember is to be absolutely sure that the new user account with your preferred name is an administrator account before removing the old account! If not, you will have no administrator accounts on your PC which makes it crippled and non-functional.
