Windows 10: Names of files already in folder show up as I type. What is this called, and why is is slow?

Hello, looking for a solution to a problem I have on a windows 10 machine. Its quite fast in all respects but I have 1 issue thats strange.

When i go to save a file in my mapped network drive, as I type the new file name, existing file names that are in that folder appear slowly. Is this related to the windows search index?


the folder its saving to is quite large, about 100K+ PDF files already. I thought perhaps it was because of the large amount of files, but when I try it with other computers on the same network to the same folder they work quickly.


Just my one computer does this. Its very annoying to ahev to wait 5-8 seconds for those names to populate before I can move on to saving. And if I try to force it, the explorer save-as windows goes gray disabled and then starts the process all over again


#1 whats is that called when the file names already in the folder appear as I type the name?


#2 how can I disable it, or fix it from going so slowly and preventing me from quickly writing a new name and saving the file?

Generating a .txt based file list in Windows 7

I want to be able to generate a .txt file that lists all the files and folders in a specific folder on my PC, but don't know the name of any programs that do that. Searched on google a bit and came up with this guide, but it's for XP and I can't seem to find some of the folder options to modify the .bat file. Any suggestions? Thanks

EDIT: The .bat file will do what I want if it is in the folder I want to do it in, but the option I want to add is having the right click option that it shows.
