Windows 10: NAS connectivity challenges NCSI?

For the past two years, I have had intermittent connectivity to my QNAP NASs. Sometime in 2020 from doing Google searches and viewing other forums, problems started popping up and users were unable to access their NASs. I tried running following thread, attempting change setting and run gpedit.msc, but the behavior did not change. Note that when I switched to Windows 11, the problem still remained. I have a Comcas

If you want, we can do a step by step troubleshooting of your current situation:

If you are able to ping your Machine and it responds.

Try to view if your NAS appears on the Network List:

If Your NAS appears on the list, try to view it:

The available shares will be listed there.

Then Try to List the content of one of the directories:

This should list the content of the directory,

If all this works Try to map a drive on one share:

Pls reply with the "response" of the first "encounter" of a non positive output.

This exercise should reveal if you have a Network or Protocol or Cipher or Authentication problem.

 

Network Connection Status Indicator (NCSI) Showing No Internet, but Browsing Works Fine.

I am using a Fortigate 100D UTM with 65 PCs connected. 22 of them have this issue. All the PCs are on the same Network / Domain so I find it hard to believe that there is a problem with the Router / UTM Firewall as all PCs would
be showing the same NCSI error.

As for your remaining suggestions; I've done all of these things, multiple times on several different PCs and all returned the same results - NCSI thinks there is No Internet but clicking on the icon resolves the issue, albeit
temporarily (several hours). Windows Troubleshooter does not find anything wrong with the Network Connection or Internet Connection.

If there were issues with the Firewall, NIC, or AV the "No Internet" issue would remain regardless. Clicking on the NCSI icon initiates a probe of the Internet via WinHTTP and the results of that probe satisfies NCSI requirements
and the status is changed.

Do you have any information or perhaps a script to test NCSI using WinHTTP?

NCSI is detects and responds to changes in network conditions. It examines the status of a network connection in a variety of ways. In the
Active Probe Process every time a network configuration event occurs the NCSI process performs several tests to identify the network’s connectivity status. Refer the following article for detailed information on

The PC will connected to network automatically if it was configured to the same network before, as you have mentioned that you are unable to auto connect to the same network, let can try few troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue and check if
that helps. Refer the article on

where you will be able to find support from professionals and members for issues related to NSCI and Active probe Process.
