  1. NAS shares unavailable in programs

Recently I have been having problems with mapped NAS shares on my network not being visible in programs. I first noticed it when I was trying to set up a backup schedule. I tried several backup programs, including SyncbackPro, which I have used for many years without any problems. I've also noticed the same problem when trying to export my custom plug-ins from Privacy Eraser. The screenshot I am uploading shows the problem. I can see and access the shares via Windows Explorer as you can see. I have tried the usual things - rebooting my laptop and router; disabling Kaspersky, etc, but no difference. My daughter's laptop is exhibiting the same problem and runs on Windows 10 64-bit as does mine. I have contacted Synology for help and they have written back: "As the mapped drives are showing in File Explorer, this is not an issue with the NAS, but an issue with Windows. I believe the issue may lie with how the drives are mapped as a standard user, rather than an administrator, so when you are using an application, it does not see the mapped drives. I would recommend contacting Microsft about this issue as they will be able to advise further."

I don't know what else to try. Can anyone advise please?

    Windows 10 & NAS Box

    Hi Peter,

A few possible reasons can cause this issue. To help us identify the cause of this problem, we would like to know the following information:

    • How is your NAS box connected to your computer? (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB)
    • Are you using a program provided by the manufacturer of your NAS box to access it?
    • Do you receive any error messages when accessing your NAS box? If yes, what is the exact error message?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, we suggest that you perform the solution provided by omiklik (Most Helpful Reply)
in the following thread: Unable to see NAS drive on Network - Win 10 PC.

Keep us updated on the status of the issue, and we will be glad to assist you further.

  3. Cannot 'Map Drive' to share on NAS after Windows 10 update

Just for the record I solved this:

    • Opened 'Turn Windows Features on or off' in Control Panel.
    • Enabled SMB 1.0/CIFS File sharing support
    • Rebooted
    • All shares on NAS can now be mapped.

NAS and computer connections missing after Windows 10 anniversary update

    Hi Joe,

Looks like you've performed the necessary workarounds to sort out this problem. Let's try to check this time if the File Sharing Support is enabled on your programs. Please follow these steps:

    • Open your Control Panel.
    • Select Programs, then Program and Features.
    • On the left pane, click Turn Windows features on or off.
    • On the list, look for SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support.
    • Right-click it and click Enable.
Once done, try to check if your NAS is reconnected.

    Update us with the result.

    Regards.
