NAS shut down, causing problems with connected external hard drive

Windows 10 Home 21H1 Should this happen or is this a glitch in Windows 10? I have Windows 10 set up to Store files to a Synology NAS from a Windows PC within the local network, using Map Network Drive. I turned the NAS off (due to having some electrical work done) and forgot to turn it back on when I turned my laptop on. I connected an external hard drive and when deleting a file it froze for a few seconds and then the file appeared in the bin, normally this happens instantly and it kept doing this when deleting or moving files between external hard drives I had connected. I then remembered that I had not turned the NAS back on. I turned it back on and everything went back to working as it normally does, with no freezes etc. Should the turning off of the NAS cause this problem with connected external hard drives and if I need to report this issue (if it is one) how do I go about it?

    :)

  4. NAS shut down, causing problems with connected external hard drive

External drives using true Sata connection?

While I did not choose the route of using an external case+usb drive, I appreciate the responses as I now understand what to look for if I need a cheaper alternative to making use of an old internal drive.

Related to this query was my decision between external drives and a NAS box.
