Windows 10: Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000: HOW ASSIGN MACROS/HOTKEYS to buttons 1-5 at the top

i am only able to assign programs to these keys but hotkeys would be much more useful!!

MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 not working

I have a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 v1.0, using it on a windows 10 Pro, and some of the buttons/functions are not working. For example the scroll button is not working, the left and right button on top of the lights are not working. The
star button is also not working. Can you please help me?

 

How to program the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 in Windows 10?

The current version of the software is M&K v2.8. (Don't bother downloading the product guide -- it's a waste of electrons.) After installation, hit the 'star' button to open up the software. That will let you assign programs to the five numbered lozenges,
and to the other silver keys in the top row. (Personally, I've assigned the music playback functions to the three keys to the left, and programs to nos 1-5.)

The zoom slider is another example of Microsoft trying to impose their vision of the world on a world that doesn't share it. Interestingly, the first time a wheel was incorporated into a mouse, Microsoft assigned the 'zoom' function to it, rather than the
'scroll' function which is now accepted. So it's not clear why the Natural 4000 has a zoom key rather than have the same key scroll, other than Microsoft can be a bit slow on the uptake. However, by hacking the commands.xml file, it's not too hard to re-assign
the key to 'scroll'.

Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 inputs wrong characters

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forum.

I suggest you to connect the keyboard to a different computer and check if the issue persists.

If the keyboard does not function correctly on another computer, the keyboard maybe defective. If this is the case, and the warranty on the keyboard is still valid, you may exchange the defective keyboard for a new keyboard.

If the keyboard works fine on a different computer, try the methods listed below:

Method 1

Adjust Language settings:

• Open Settings and click on Time and Language.
  
• Choose Region and Language and make sure the language you’re using on your keyboard (the input language) matches the one you’re using on your PC (the display language).
  

Method 2

Update driver manually:

Install the latest drivers from Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and check if
it works.

If the issue persists, you may get in touch with
Microsoft Hardware Support for further assistance.
