Windows 10: Navigation pane not fully visible in Mail App

I have 2 devices, a laptop and a Surface tablet. Both have the same Mail App. On the laptop the navigation pane is always fully visible and can be changed with hamburger menu on the upper left side. On the Surface, the navigation panel show only icons and is compressed on the left side. The hamburger menu expands it only when selected, and I am unable to keep it fully expanded and visible. This is a new change to the Surface. I have tried to find a setting that allows it to stay fully visible, but can;t find a way to do this.

Mail App's Navigation Pane Won't Stay Minimized

The Windows mail app's navigation pane won't stay minimized.

I'll click the 3 lines at the top and it minimizes but when I reopen the mail app the nav pane is open.

Any ideas?

One suggestion would be to hover the mouse over the dividing line between the navigation pane and the list of files (it's the right-hand edge of the navigation pane's vertical scroll bar). When the pointer becomes a double-headed arrow you can click-and-drag to make the navigation pane wider.

I have mine set to about twice the width of the one in your screenshot.

Mail app will not open on 10041.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
