Windows 10: Need advice on how to restrict apps and os accessing the internet?

i will be using my phone as a mobile hotspot and i dont want to consume too much data on it. I will just be using steam(games are already downloaded) so that i can unlock achievement and sync my saves. not sure how much background data steam is using while im playing a game but if i can limit that too that would be great

Preventing access to modern app

Ive been tasked with preventing the children from accessing instagram. I've got it listed in my windows hosts file and internet options/security/restricted site but the windows 10 app is still allowing access. Any suggestions other then deleting app which can just be reinstalled?

 

Need to restrict Windows access to folder on Synology NAS but don't know how users/workgroup plays into it

Thanks for the reply, sorry to say I hit a snag pretty early on. I had previously seen that Synology help page but when I get to step 2 the folder I want to restrict is not in the list. I try to Create a new entry but never find anywhere i can browse to
the folder on the network and choose it to add to the list.

I do see the top level of the NAS that is shared to everyone, inside of which is the folder I want to restrict, but I can't sort how to navigate to that folder so I am changing its permissions without changing for the top level directory.

Another issue is the page describes setting permissions for users, but I am unclear if those users need to be created in the NAS OS or how those relate to user accounts under windows on the various PCs we have in the office.

 

Need some restriction of my standard user in my PC

The easiest way to restrict a standard user from accessing the files of another user account is by ensuring that the files are saved to the
C:\Users\<AdministratorUsername> folder or the %userprofiles% folder. If a standard user attempts to access the files from the said folder, by default, it would instantly prompt for the administrator's credentials in order
to access it.

If you wish to put restrictions on a specific file, you may follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the specific file and choose Properties.
  
• Choose Security tab.
  
• Click Edit.
  
• Choose Add.
  
• Type the username, click Check Name and then, hit
  OK.
  
• You can now manage the restrictions for the user profile, under Permissions for <username>.

If you wanted to set a restriction on the Local Drive, follow these steps:

• Double-click This PC.
  
• Right-click on Local Disk (C.
  
• Choose Properties.
  
• Select Security tab.
  
• Click Edit.
  
• Choose Add.
  
• Type the username, click Check Name and then, hit OK.
• Set the level of restriction for the said drive.
