Need an updated troubleshooting solution to get microphone to pick up sound correctly on...

I tried searching for help with this a few times this week and keep getting outdated how-tos, including some here and Microsoft's official site. I'm running on the latest version of Windows 11 at time of posting and have been trying to record audio with the inbuilt microphone. But it could barely hear me. So in case it was a microphone issue I switched to/tested with a bluetooth headset I have with a microphone. Same issue - barely audible. Then I tried a USB microphone and had the same bad result. If I'm watching Youtube, Disney+ etc the sound is fine - so it's definitely microphone-related

    :)

    Microphone issues

    Hi Michael,

Here are the possible reasons why you're getting an error "The microphone did not pick anything up" when using it:

    • Incorrect settings (microphone is not set as default device)
    • Corrupted or outdated driver
    • Faulty device

For us to isolate the issue, we'd like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made to your computer prior to this issue(e.g. Windows updates)?
    • Have you tried connecting other microphone to your computer?
    • Have you tried connecting the microphone to the other computer?

In the meantime, we suggest running the Recording Audio Troubleshooter to find and repair problems with recording sound. We also suggest checking if your microphone is set as your default recording device. For troubleshooting steps, please see
    Geethu B's on this
    link.

We're looking forward to your reply.

Microphone still unable to pick up sound from Dragon Speech

Not a techie at all sorry but follow your general drift which is interesting. I've now got a mike input (USB Pro Sound) but how do you make the connection to the headphone output as there's two separate wires ?

Microphone not working windows 10. Only picks up pc sounds

We apologize for the late response. We appreciate the update. You have mentioned that you are using the audio port on the front panel of your computer. Your computer should also have an audio port on the back panel. If your computer has an audio port on
the back, we suggest that you try using that port. In addition, we recommend that you run the Recording Audio troubleshooter. This tool finds and fixes problems with recording sound. Here are the steps:

    1. Click Start and type Troubleshoot in the search box and click on Troubleshoot from the results.

    2. Select Recording Audio and click on Run the troubleshooter button.

If the issue persist, we suggest that you create a new local user account on your computer and check if you will be able to use your microphone while on the new account. This lets us verify if this issue is cause by a corrupted user profile. Here's

    how
    .

Furthermore, you might want to check Microphone in Sound Settings. This is to make sure that the microphone is the default device.

    1. Use the key Win + X (or right click the Start menu).

    2. Select Control Panel.

    3. Click Sound and open the dialog window.

    4. Choose the Recording tab and find the Microphone on the recording devices list. (If you can't find it, right click on the list and select
    Show Disable Devices.

    5. Then right click the Microphone and select Enable.

    6. Select the Microphone.

    7. Lastly, click the button Set Default below the list.
