Windows 10: Need help getting a working Dell Latitude 3189 touchpad multi-touch driver for Windows 7

A few months ago, I bought a Dell Latitude 3189 off eBay for like $50 bucks as a secondary laptop. It came with Windows 10, but I "downgraded" it to Windows 7 to see how the experience would be. It took some searching to find the essential drivers, but I got wireless, aero, sound, etc. working well. However, I cannot find a working touchpad driver. The Dell downloads page says that the laptop only supports Windows 10. Yeah, right. I looked up "touchpad" and it recommends Windows Update. That is solid advice for Windows 10, but not for Windows 7. I used Driver Booster and other driver lookup to

Synaptics SMBus touchpad driver disables multi gesture support

I need help with the Synaptics Touchpad driver.

Right Now, the Touchpad does not seem to be able to work with the current driver, I tried downgrading to the previous driver version and multi touch worked.

Using the Synaptics v17.0.19.0 touchpad driver, I seem to be able to perform three and two finger gestures and swipes

But when I update to v19.0.19.1, I automatically lose multi-touch functions on the touchpad,

Alternating back to v17.0.19.0 gets multi touch support back.

I am running Windows 10 Home Insider Edition, Version 1703, Build 16251.0

Is there a possibility that I could get the newest version of my driver to work with Multi-Touch support?

Enabling touchpad windows 10 Dell laptop

Hi Amy,

I realize that it must be difficult for you when things are not working as it should. Sorry to know that you are facing this issue.

Please answer these questions to get more clarity on this issue:

• 
  Did you make any changes to the pc prior to this issue?
  
• 
  Have you installed all pending updates on the pc?
  

A lot of Dell touchpads have an area at the top left of the pad which when double-tapped will toggle the touchpad On/Off.

Further, follow these steps to check if that helps:

• 
  In the Search box, type touchpad.
  
• 
  Touch or click Mouse & touchpad settings (System settings).
  
• 
  Touch or click the Touchpad toggle to turn off or on the Touchpad.
  

Note: When there is no Touchpad toggle look for Additional mouse options at the bottom of the page.

  Touch or click Additional mouse options.
  
• 
  Touch or click the Dell Touchpad or Click Pad tab.
  

Touch or click the link, Click to change Dell Touchpad settings, there may be an option to enable or disable the Touchpad.
