Windows 10: Need Help Getting Sound To Work

Last week, my pc's sound capabilities were working.


Today, though, silence.


In a failed attempt at fixing another problem, however, I had Windows 10 W10 revert back to its factory settings while saving my personal files.


By chance, I fixed the other problem, days ago. Yet, as already alluded to, the sound no longer works.


When I instruct W10 to troubleshoot the problem, today, it lists two devices and asks me to chose one. Yet, whichever I pick, the troubleshooter fails; the resultant message says:"The audio peripheral doesn't appear to be plugged in. Check the connection."


The peripherals speakers & microphone, however, ARE plugged in - just like they were, last week when things seemed to be working. Moreover, I have tried plugging the speakers into other sockets, but, again, I get that same message.


When I check out the device manager, initially, there are no "!" signs visible.


When I click on "Sound, video and game controllers", it, too, shows me 2 devices.


When I check the properties, for device #2, W10 reports that it is working.


According to properties, for device #1, however, no drivers were installed.


When I tried to update the drivers, from my PC, for device #1, an error message says that W10"encountered an error while attempting to install them....A device attached to the system is not functioning."


At this point, the device manager shows a "!" next to the device "Audio device on high definition audio bus".


In addition, the device was moved, from "Sound, video and game controllers" to"Other devices".


So, I suspect it is device #1 which is preventing the sound, on my PC.


Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue

• What is the exact issue are you facing with sound?
• Are you getting any error message?
• Have you installed all the pending Windows updates?

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.

• Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
• Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
• Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.

Sound problem

Hi,

We need to investigate further so that we can identify the cause of the issue. We suggest running the Troubleshooter and see if it helps. Follow the steps below:

• Type and select Troubleshooting on the Search bar/Cortana.
• Click Hardware and Sound.
• Select Playing Audio under Sound.
• Follow the steps that will be provided.

If the steps does not work. We suggest downloading a fresh copy of the audio driver from Realtek and see if it helps.
