Changes to Microsoft 365 email features and storage

This article lists some frequently asked questions about end of support for personalized email address in Microsoft 365 and changes to Microsoft cloud storage.

Changes to personalized email addresses in Outlook.com

Starting November 30, 2023, Microsoft 365 Personal or Microsoft 365 Family subscribers will no longer be able to create a new personalized email address associated with their Outlook.com mailbox.

I have a personalized email address in Outlook.com. What will happen to my email address?

If you already have a personalized email address in Outlook.com, nothing will change, and you can continue using it without any disruption in service. However, you will need to keep your personalized email address setup in Outlook.

After November 30, 2023, if you remove your personalized email address from your Outlook.com account, you will not be able to add it back. The feature will no longer be available to you.

If I remove a personalized email address after November 30, 2023, will I be able to add it back?

After November 30, 2023, Microsoft 365 Personal or Microsoft 365 Family subscribers who remove their personalized email address from their Outlook.com account will not be able to add it back. The feature will no longer be available to you.

If you change your mind and would like to use Outlook with a personalized email address, you will have to consider switching to one of our Microsoft 365 Business plans.

What additional premium features do I get in Outlook.com with my Microsoft 365 Personal/Family subscription?

Microsoft 365 subscribers get exclusive access to these Outlook.com premium features.

Advanced email security. As a Microsoft 365 subscriber, you get enhanced security tools that help protect your inbox from phishing and malware. Learn more about advanced Outlook.com security for subscribers.

Outlook.com includes encryption and prevent forwarding features that ensure your confidential and personal information you share via email stays encrypted and doesn’t leave Microsoft 365. Ad-free interface. Microsoft 365 subscribers enjoy an ad-free Outlook.com mailbox.

Larger mailbox storage. Microsoft 365 subscribers get 50 GB of email storage as a subscription benefit. You'll have 50 GB of email storage at your disposal.

Note: 50 GB is not available to Microsoft 365 trial subscribers. The increased storage only becomes available shortly after a paid subscription starts.

Premium support. Microsoft 365 subscriptions include premium customer support, so if you need to contact Microsoft for help, you'll get our highest level of service.

Changes to cloud storage

Starting February 1, 2023, cloud storage used across Microsoft 365 apps and services will include Outlook.com attachments data and OneDrive data. All data will continue to be protected with Microsoft’s comprehensive set of security features.

This update will not impact your Outlook.com mailbox storage amount. However, this may reduce how much cloud storage you have available to use with your OneDrive. If you reach your cloud storage quota, your ability to send and receive emails in Outlook.com will be disrupted.

What's included in my cloud storage?

Your cloud storage will include:

OneDrive files and photos, for example:

Personal files you store, upload and sync from your computer or mobile device, such as Office documents, mobile camera roll, screenshots and other files and photos which have been saved to your OneDrive, including Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders.

Any items in your Recycle Bin.

Outlook.com attachments.

Teams message attachments & recordings.

How do I check my cloud storage usage and quota?

You can check your storage usage and quotas in either OneDrive or Outlook.com.

How can I find out when my Microsoft 365 subscription expires?

How can I find where I purchased my Microsoft 365 subscription?

Go to your Services & subscriptions page.

If prompted, choose Sign in and enter the Microsoft account email and password associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription.

Click on the Manage button, if your subscription was purchased through Microsoft, you will see options to manage your subscription, otherwise you will be taken the website of the third-party retailer where you purchased your subscription.

How do I cancel my subscription?

If you do not wish to continue your Microsoft 365 subscription, visit Cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription for instructions. 

If you purchased a Microsoft 365 subscription with recurring billing from a third-party retailer instead of the Microsoft Store, contact the third-party retailer directly to cancel your subscription.

Office 365 Outlook email accounts

O365 Personal cannot be shared. It can be installed on unlimited number of devices, but it must be activated with the same subscriber Microsoft account on each device.

However, the activation Microsoft account email does not have to be added to Outlook. A fully valid and functional example:

User A subscribes to O365 Personal

User A installs and activates O365 on his / her laptop

User A adds his / her email accounts to Outlook

User A installs and activates O365 on User B's laptop

User B adds his / her email accounts to Outlook

The point is, that the O365 Personal subscriber email is required to activate Office on each device, but it don't have to be added to Outlook. In above example, both User A and User B add only their own email accounts to Outlook, and cannot see each other's accounts and emails.

The reason I am asking these questions are that two individuals are buying two new laptops and would like to share one Microsoft Office 365 Personal.
A has a subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Personal already and wants to share the same account with B.
I have installed Microsoft Office 365 Personal in a second pc B and when launching Outlook all my email accounts from A were loaded. So, I cannot figure out how to install Microsoft Office 365 Personal in a second pc so that my email accounts A are not loaded.
This raises more questions for me.

So this

would not apply to Microsoft Office 365 Personal as it breaches the licence agreement?

Am I correct?

If it does apply how can I install Microsoft Office 365 Personal in a second pc so that my email accounts A are not loaded, and I can only add B email account on the second pc?

Would B be able to access A OneDrive?

Or would B have a separate 1TB free space in One drive, or only the free 5GB or none at all?

And most importantly is this even legal or in breach of contract as Microsoft Office 365 Personal is for one user only?

email account is out of date problem

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving the issue. I understand that you are receiving an error that the email account settings are out of date. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.

However, please let us know:

When you say “when I go to verify them there is a password that I did not enter”, may I know the verify section that you are referring?

Are you aware of any changes made to the computer prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the article

Your account settings are out-of-date in Mail or Calendar for Windows 10 and see if that helps.
