Windows 10: Need info on Recovery Drive creation

I just created a USB drive recovery disk & there are 4.8Gb of space left on the thumb drive. I checked the box for including System Files.

I would like to know if I can use the remaining space, or if something in the process of creating a Recovery Disk on a USB drive w/System files prevents you from using the remainig space i.e. the drive was formatted & made bootable.

Recovery drive creation

I can't create a recovery drive, I follow steps and when I select a drive it starts, then quits with error msg. Any solution?

 

RECOVERY DRIVE CREATION

My Acer Aspire S7-392 has been to the repair center and came back with Windows 10 ( from Windows 8.1). The repair sheet stated 'remapped the drive, opened an account and installed windows 10).

I tried to create a recovery drive and while creating - copying utilities and then system files appeared and recovery drive created successfully. It did not offer the option to delete the recovery partition which option is always there although do not delete
the recovery partition?

Also when I have created these drives before it used state copying recovery drive (not system files)

Recovery partition does exit but no aware if it is for windows 8.1 or 10. Windows old folder also exist in the C drive.

Acer says the windows 10 is an upgrade?

Please look into it and advise as I am very much confused.

Sure you can use the space but remember the more you use a drive, the bigger the risk of failure. I do not recommend such practice as new usb sticks are so cheap.

Not sure I concur with the risk assessment - as USB re-writes are a common practice for me..

 

I have a 16 GB USB flash drive to install either version or platform of 10. I created a folder called Drivers and one called Software. In it, I keep my usual drivers and software apps that are part of my base install.

 

I do not encourage you to do that. Just buy a new 8GB flash drive since it is very cheap now.

 

WHY ??

Do it all the time and have for years....

 

Nothing to worry about at all, as long as you don't alter the existing files or directory structure.

 

The only caveat I have is just don't use a drive larger than 32GB. Having only a 64GB drive at hand it got 32GB formatted as FAT32 [the default]. It's the limitation of Windows partitioning and formatting FAT32 above 32GB. I acquired a 32GB drive [on sale nearly as cheap as a 16GB] and redid the redid the drive creation then booted a computer to a GPARTED LiveCD to delete the 32GB partition and formatted the drive as FAT32 at the full 64GB. GPARTED is a valuable tool in my work, have formatted HDDs as FAT32 as large as 250GB [as long as the BIOS sees a drive properly].
