    Need jumper pin info on a WD5000LPCX WD Blue 500GB


    This Sata 3 drive was the boot drive for a laptop bought in 2014. It started presenting problems and it "quit" working about 6 months ago. This was not my computer but a friend of mines estranged gf's computer. They were interested in trying to retrieve information of the WD-HD. Ik one should backup internal drives but that is not my place they are adults. Another friend who is a certified computer field technician tried to retrieve data from the WD-HD but was unsuccessful. I am just a hacker though I have been working on PC desktops and laptops since 1984. It occurred to me back in the day that hard drives could be configured as a primary drive or as a secondary/slave drive depending upon moving the jumper pins around. I went to Western Digital's website and tried to ascertain the jumper settings for that purpose but I am not finding that out. Of course I could just switch pins around and see what results that I have. But I would prefer a definitive jumper settings information. Since this hd was primarily configured as a primary drive this information may not be readily available on their website.

    WD Purple or Blue?

    Agreed one of the most common failed drives I get into the shop are failed WD Blues or any of the 500GB slim 2.5" drives. Brand doesn't matter on those.

    WD Purple or Blue?

    My suggestion, avoid the Blues at all costs. I wouldn't trust my data on a WD Blue if WD was paying me to use it.
