  1. Need to disable auto-select on hover

I just got a new Lenovo system with Windows 11 Pro. Leaving the mouse over any selectable item seems extraordinarily dangerous. After a few seconds hovering, it decides I mean to select and goes ahead. In only a couple days of use, it has happened many times, and it even happened while I was configuring disk information and it was asking me if I was sure I wanted to erase a particular partition. It's a darned good thing that I did want to erase that disk because it was off and doing it before I could do anything to stop it. I DO NOT WANT THIS "FEATURE". I want to have to actively click a butto

  2. How to disable "auto-select" when hovering - Windows 10

    Hi LianeLe,

There's a possibility that the auto-select on mouse hover is enabled on mouse settings that's you're experiencing this kind of issue. You may follow these steps to disable this feature and see if it works:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. On the search bar, type in Control Panel, and click it from the search results.
    3. Once in Control Panel window, set the view to small icons, then select
      Ease of Access Center.
    4. Under Explore all settings, select Make the mouse easier to use option.
    5. Under Make it easier to manage windows, uncheck Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse.
    6. Once done, click Apply, then OK.

Please observe if the mouse still auto-select and then update this thread with the result so I can assist you further if needed.

    Regards.

I want to have to actively click a button in order to select it.

I am very glad I figured out dual boot so that I can mostly use Linux, so soon this will not be an issue. Almost everything about Windows 11 seems worse to me than Windows 10. But, among other things, it is auto-selecting news items I did not want AND DID NOT CLICK ON. It thinks it maintains a list of what I I've read, but really it's a list of what it has accidentally auto-selected because I never clicked on ANY of them. I don't even want news items, it just took me a long time to figure out the obscure trick you have to use to disable them.

I have verified that the auto-select-on-hover problem does NOT happen on the Linux side, so it's definitely a software issue in Windows 11, not a hardware issue in Lenovo. Furthermore, it happens in all kinds of different programs in Windows 11, so it's not like I need so set some option in Edge or something like that. It needs to be a system-wide setting.

This is absolutely infuriating and frankly renders the system HIGHLY unreliable affecting every minute of my experience and making me want to get out of ever using Windows that much faster.

  4. Need to disable auto-select on hover

How to disable "auto-select" when hovering - Windows 10

Am getting really frustrated. Yesterday, immediately after putting in a brand new flashdrive (Sandisk) on my Lenovo laptop ... I was reading the options list for how to open the file and was simply hovering over the list when the darned system auto-selected
"Adobe Reader". I didn't click on it or even touch the computer. I was just hovering over the list.

It's not the first time this has happened. The stupid thing selects and OPENS anything I hover over for more than a few seconds. I have found several complaints about this on various websites ... but have not found an answer to the question ...

"How do I DISABLE" this really, really annoying "feature"?

It has added unwanted bookmarks when surfing the web, opened websites I didn't want to go to, opened programmes I didn't want to open ... and on and on.

I want this thing stopped once and for all. I contacted Microsoft Help and wasted close to an hour of my life. Whatever the young lady told me to do under "Ease of Access" didn't fix the problem at all.

Does anyone have any REAL fix?
