  1. need to find system process accessing harddrive

setup: i'm using an ssd as boot and working partition and have a hdd which contains a spare windows version and just a data partition to use on demand for storage. the hdd runs in low power mode and is basicly inactive. it's also is setup to not be monitored for restoration or optimization.

problem: some form of process randomly spins it up, but seemingly doesn't read or write anything. which is what i wanna terminate. it also randomly spins up when opening files, which are already set up to use certain application and the pick app exe should not attempt to find any other apps or tools on there. something bs is definetely happening there. i'm not aware if i should remove any executable search pathes.

i tried: resource monitor windows internal. no results. process monitor external with filters setup to monitor access to the partitions on the hdd. results are inconclusive.

any known culprits system monitors or "services" that may cause this behaviour and may do so undetected aka hidden? any other suggestion for tools to figure it out? are there any fixes i could apply to prevent the system to access it in any form?

    tia

    :)

    Best gaming harddrive Sugestion ???

Seagate states on their 750gb,32mb cache harddrive that the best application is video surveillance.(liquor stores, how very sad and completly overpriced for the amount of problems they have).Yet Passmark lists this near the top of their harddrive page.Any one have a suggestion for something that will last.(maybe samsung???)
Also I was considering a Raidmax hybrid 2 sli 630w powersupply.Any thoughts on Raidmax??

need to find system process accessing harddrive

TCPView shows multiple [System Process] network connections...

The list has a huge variation of IPs. I haven't noted any pattern in what IPs appear.

Could you suggest how I could identify this process or set of processes referred to as [System Process]?
