  1. Need to make network connections private

    Hello,
I have tried for 3 hours tonight to get my computer to connect to the Internet at my dad's house and I cannot do it. I have tried many of the tings listed in other posts and no results. I am wondering If I can no longer set up new WiFi spots on my laptop at this point. In the control panel network center I see it says public access. In the homegroup page there is no link to make it private. I have tried to get the command screens to pull the registration entries. They are not found. I see on clicking the blue links in the network center that my computer is set in guest or public, and no button to change it. Please help.

    :)

  2. how do i change network from public to private

    Hi Simon,

A private network location type can be for home or small office networks, or when you know and trust the people and devices on the network. This setting allows your PC to connect to a homegroup and devices on the network, such as printers. Here's how you
can make a Wi-Fi network public or private in Windows 10.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

  3. New and Future Networks as PRIVATE Networks, Help!

    Hey Guys,

I have read a heap of articles on changing current networks as PRIVATE by using gpedit and regedit and now the network settings in Win10 Settings... easy enough..

Tho my pc has no screen and sometimes requires me connecting a screen to go in and change a new network to private. this is very annoying as the screenless computer goes to many locations...

It prevents my remote connecting to it! I need a way to make windows 10 either by script or by a hidden setting? to allow for any and all new networks to be treated as PRIVATE.

I read someone made a script to change current network to private, (via powershell)

    $net = get-netconnectionprofile;Set-NetConnectionProfile -Name $net.Name -NetworkCategory Private

so I could possibly make an auto run at startup. can anyone help me make this happen?

many thanks Need to make network connections private :) Shaun

    Hi,
Do you get the second snip when you click Network and Internet? Could you be able to see the Wi-Fi listed?(second snip), if you can click the Wi-Fi network and you will see the snip in my previous post.

  7. Hello,,
Thank you for your help so far. SO here is where I am at. I looked through everything for your picture It was not there. Now I want to point out I was at my dads house trying to connect. I have since come home and it is working the pictures you showed me are all there. I have no idea why it not work at my dads but it works just fine at home.

You have already mentioned that you are at your father's house. That is irrelevant. What matters is if what is in his second post, second Screenshot, do you see that anywhere in the Network settings in the System window.

As long as your wifi adapter has the proper driver installed, it will show up in the Network settings for what is in the second screenshot.

  9. Bro67, my irrelevant point I was trying to make was when I am at my father's house, it does not connect and will not show me any links to make the connection private. When I am home all thelse links are there and that connection is private. So location does is important as to what I want to see. I have to find out why my laptop does not like to travel. But thank you for explaining to me how to read.

Again it is irrelevant where you are trying to setup a Bridged connection and why you want it. You need to concentrate on following the steps that the OP gave you and if you do not see those choices, that means that either Wifi got disabled in the bios, or the device and driver got removed from Device Manager somehow.

If you can fix the hardware and get the screen that you are showing, that is the very first thing the OP needs. Once you get to that, then it is easy to walk you through the rest of the way and use your laptop to bridge the incoming Wifi out to other devices that you want to connect your laptop to.

  11. Bro67. So my irrelevant point that when I am at home the laptop is fine and the laptop has all the steps it is supposed to have and when I leave my home WiFi all of these things go away is not the point? So what is the point? I think it is very interesting that my laptop works like it is supposed to at home then as soon as I take it away from my home WiFi it does not. I think that is my problem and that is what I need to figure out and fix. But since you are so smart about my laptop and what I need you keep telling me how irrelevant my problems are. It makes this whole thing so much better.

  12. I will get help from somewhere else. As I cannot explain what is wrong and get it resolved. This problem is not solved but I am done with this posting

That's too bad. There are hundreds of members on this forum to help you - just because the first one or two can't help you doesn't mean that some others can. For one thing - does your laptop not see any other WiFi networks away from home, like at the library or McDonald's? Or is it just at your dad's house? If it is just your dad's house it might be that his SSID (the network name broadcast by the WiFi router) is set to hidden on his router and you would manually have to enter the SSID to connect to it.

Again repeating everything is not helping yourself in any way. As I have stated that regardless where you are using the computer, it is irrelevant. Suggest looking up the term.

You want to bridge a connection through your laptop, see Post #2 in regards if you are able to see that information after checking to see if the Wifi adapter is showing up in Device Manger under Network Connections. If not, you need to install the proper drivers and make sure that it is enabled. Very simple instructions, not that hard to fix.

You do realize that you are the one refusing to allow the OP to assist you on this issue. If you post elsewhere, they are going to get a lot more technical and if you refuse to allow them to help you, you will still be stuck where you currently are.
