  2. Well no it will take a few being at 96% but nothing new since I ... now 97% going on... but at least is going right to the flash drive while I could have downloaded direct to the laptop. That already has 10 and the latest updates on however while I will keep it there with the MC Tool as well just in case. 99% and you are certainly most welcome! *Biggrin

See Post #4 for Corrected information edited in there as far as downloading 10 with the updated Media Creation tool as far as options, the automatic detection and individual selection made for you, and reference to how to choose otherwise at Tech Bench when not downloading for the machine you are on but for other machines.

I downloaded the media tool from the link in the forum and I got to choose Windows 10 32 or 64bit from the drop down menu although it chose the version on the PC creating the media. In fact the machine I used to create the media was a 32 bit system and it even gave me a warning when I wanted to download a 64 bit version for my other PC.

You can always go for the 64bit iso download at the Tech Bench Upgrade Program linked in Option One in the guide there to get out from under the automatic detection of the wrong machine being the one you are only using for the download. I ran into this earlier when going to download on the main machine being 10 Pro while the new laptop is the 64bit 10 Home edition there due the TH2 being an update type of installer that insures the correct upgrade path.

When you first arrive at the Tech Bench page there you run into the Select edition button choosing the "Windows 10" option which when confirmed brings you to the next screen actually as the page expands inplace for selecting the product language where you want English most likely being what should be listed by MS there as English(US) or the other English International option for the second more or less more UK like for how various spellings are seen.

Under Downloads you now have the two links for 32bit and 64bit to pick from which immediately prompts to Open with or Save File where you can choose the Save File option and browse to the destination folder. Instead of that being "Windows.iso" instead it will already be named "Win 10_1511_English_x64.iso" being the dual 64bit Home/Pro iso rolled up together. Note what then changes in the notation seen below those two download buttons.

Once you boot live you then will simply choose which edition to put on since the iso will be strictly 64bit being downloaded as a file without anything MS running like the MC tool which was updated to detect what people are running as part of the update or upgrade being seen with the TH2. I know it can get a little confusing in how MS rattles their sabers around a bit to mishmeshmash

    things around. *Rolleyes

Even though I got the warning it still permitted me to download the 64 Bit version so I think I'm okay with the media created.

  6. That helps to know as long as it comes out ok! Another option however would be to make up the "4 in 1" media with the 16gb flash drive you have and simply follow the thread that came on how to go about seeing this done! Even with the TH2 you can still download the pair of dual Home/Pro iso images in both 32/64 flavors to see those combined when the TH2 was first available however you would have seen the 5.48gb combination already made up for you where you simply make the selections as the installation proceeds rather then be running into this now.

The one thing to note about the discussion on the thread is this was originally posted back in August while the 10240 saw four options in two flavors when going to pick out the 32/64 choice as well as language, type of edition, and which edition in single flavor or dual iso. The project took the 10240 dual Pro(32/64) and saw the two 32bit and 64bit Pro and Home combo images downloaded and extracted the contents from each of those ISO's 32bit and 64bit folders that replaced the files in the Pro dual already written to the 8gb or 16gb size flash drive using the larger drive when not having an 8gb. Solved How to make 4 in 1 installation USB? - Windows 10 Forums

The 5 o 6 pages there end with several screens I had posted as well as the information at the time being updates as far as how the download options were changed. The method still works however. You will note the OP's comment about the MC tool then downloading a 4 in 1 already set to. Without a non 10 machine to verify a live boot you only see the two flavor options at this time where you simply select the 64bit and should be all set to go.

That one there will be a bit more involved then what you were asking about but will make a good reference. You may end sometime wanting to help someone upgrade as well if not simply see a clean install for others where having a combination stick can be a life saver! The Recovery Drive on a key chain idea still holds merit as well as since that's a low cost live repair option. *Wink

Night Hawk, where in the BIOS do I check to see if it's set up as Fast or Secure boot? I see in the manual it's disabled by default, but I want to make sure.

I found this https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...dows-10-a.html after I posted. I guess I don't need to go into the BIOS.

The computer updated today to 1151 (10586.63). Do I need to run the tool again and create a new USB bootable drive? I didn't have a chance to do the clean install before the update today.

  10. I would advise seeing the 10 media made up anyways even if the install proves to work out well for you. You never know when you may have to either boot live to perform a repair or even use the reset option or see another fresh install go on. Even when having the 10 media up the Recovery Drive option is still good to have as well in case you are running 10 on a laptop and out somewhere. I still have to see if the Toshiba replacement laptop here will boot from usb or it is stuck on optical like the 3yr. old HP that just stuffed on me last week?!

Here not only do I have the 10586 iso on the 128gb one of two actually flash drive I carry on me with a Linux partition for live data recovery but have both the 10240 Home and Pro x64 isos and the dual Home/Pro 64bit iso for the TH2. Those are for potential upgrades or repairs while the second mini tower and VMs here are still Insider Preview builds one upgraded over the other. The TH2 on the main build was actually an upgrade over the previous 10576 Insider build to 10586 Insider to TH2 in that order.

Okay, thanks. I'll create another media with the updated build on it. That way I have two if for some reason one fails.

  12. It won't hurt any! It can help having a pair of flash drives made up just in case of a bad write regardless of whether or not the MC Tool is used, Rufus referred to in the guide, or another program. I've had a few occasions when I simply had to reformat and see a repeat try in order to get the program to write an iso or two fully.

As for the Recovery Drive option Windows makes that up when prompted to plug in a flash drive when going to use that option found in the Control Panel under Backup & Restore. That writes quick since you are only seeing the options you would find in the F8 menu only available for use when for some reason you are not able to call that up at post time.

You should be good to go however since the MC Tool usually writes a good stick right on the spot without problems. *Smile

  14. Sound good to me! *Biggrin Congradulations are in order for you on your first OS install! *Thumbs

You will likely do alright for the first time around anyways. But it would be interesting to hear back on how the rest of the software installs go for you there. Once you have tended to this a few times it will start to become second nature to an extent.

It won't always be the exact all the time however. This is one thing I should give you a forewarning about since there will be times when something simply won't go on fully or won't go on at all in some cases especially when first getting started off with a new version like the wait now to see what comes next. But we all take baby steps when first starting out anyways! *Wink

Well I got all my software installed except Outlook. That's tomorrow's project. Other than some issues finding the software I need for my camera on their website(I have to call them on Monday) everything went well. Hopefully I don't run into issues with the Outlook install.
