    Around the time of me downloading a BIOS update from Lenovo i dont recall whether it was after or before, my laptop hanged indefinitely when i booted it up, and i had to close it through the power button and reopen it.

    This happened for a while, then yesterday i went through the usual procedure and I instead got a blue screen. It said critical service failed. I just could not open my laptop, or even the automatic repair service. I got a blue screen, it restarted and it says “Preparing Automatic Repair” and never opens it. I have to close it and open it through power button in succession to open it.
    Later the blue screen started saying inaccessible boot device.

    After some poking around i discovered i can access my files. I had noticed my C drive became X, and i checked in File Explorer and my C: which is where my windows was installed on became D: and my D: drive became the C:

    I got another mysterious E: which says something along the lines of “WINRE_DV” with 1 gb and half of it was used.

    and i saw ANOTHER drive named “Boot”. It had 500mb free and i noticed most if not all the system files from C: now D: but i will refer to it as C: for clarity were in X:


    What i think is that Windows could somehow not detect where to boot from since it usually always boots from C:, but now it detects nothing and thus it made its own drive to boot from. Is this correct?

    some info: in the BIOS, i cannot see any drives. Only “Windows Boot Manager” and i cant do anything with it.


    is the solution reassigning D: back as C: and vice versa? And if yes, how?


    Any help is massively appreciated.

    Okay I don't see any known troublemakers in the shell extensions shown in explorer tab.

    Would suggest checking for updates for the softwares listed and installing updates if available.
