Today, we are releasing the .NET Core January 2019 Update. These updates contain security and reliability fixes.

Security

CVE-2019-0545: .NET Core Information Disclosure Vulnerability

The security update addresses the vulnerability by enforcing Cross-origin Resource Sharing (CORS) configuration to prevent its bypass in .NET Core 2.1 and 2.2. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could retrieve content, that is normally restricted, from a web application.

CVE-2019-0548: ASP.NET Core Denial Of Service Vulnerability

This security vulnerability exists in ASP.NET Core 1.0, 1.1, 2.1 and 2.2. If an application is hosted on Internet Information Server (IIS) a remote unauthenticated attacker can use a specially crafted request to cause a Denial of Service.

CVE-2019-0564: ASP.NET Core Denial Of Service Vulnerability

This security vulnerability exists in ASP.NET Core 1.0, 1.1, 2.1 and 2.2. If an application is hosted on Internet Information Server (IIS) a remote unauthenticated attacker can use a specially crafted request to cause a Denial of Service.

CVE-2018-8416: .NET Core Tampering Vulnerability

A security vulnerability exists wherein .NET Core 2.1 improperly handles specially crafted files. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could write arbitrary files and directories to certain locations on a vulnerable system. However, an attacker would have limited control over the destination of the files and directories.

To exploit the vulnerability, an attacker must send a specially crafted file to a vulnerable system.

Windows ARM support

This release includes the first availability of .NET Core for Windows Server, version 1809 ARM32. Runtime zips can be found on the downloads page. The SDK zip is expected to be live on the 9th and this note will be updated when that happens.

Getting the Update

The latest .NET Core updates are available on the .NET Core download page. This update is included in the Visual Studio 15.9.5 update, which is also releasing today.

Docker Images

Deployment of .NET Core 2.1.7 and 2.2.1 to Azure App Services has begun. The West Central US, North Central US and West US 2 regions are live now. Remaining regions will be updated over the next few days.

Not seeing the Symbian Anna 1/2 & 2/2 updates

Tonight (29/08) I did a reinstall of the software from the PC Suite and got Symbian Anna Apps 2/2 installed, first time round it didn't work only did the core update, social and ovi but no apps.

I am on orange UK.

Tried the trouble shooting steps such as the reinstallation of the QT packages.

I am still missing Symbian Anna 1/2.

Have nokia pulled Symbian Anna 1/2? Any ideas?

Anna update 1/2 and 2/2 fail

I tried various options to no avail. Finally, did a factory reset with erase all data option. Selecting Anna 1/2 and Ovi Store update before other options did the trick on my N8.

The changes in the updates are awesome !!

@Rollindice - unfortunately, the steps in that link are not working for everyone :-|. I tried both solutions listed on that page.

Announcing .NET Core 2.2 Preview 2

Today, we are announcing .NET Core 2.2 Preview 2. We have great improvements that we want to share and that we would love to get your feedback on, either in the comments or at dotnet/core #1938.

ASP.NET Core 2.2 Preview 2 and Entity Framework 2.2 Preview 2 are also releasing today. We are also announcing C# 7.3 and ML.NET 0.5.

Docker images are available at microsoft/dotnet for .NET Core and ASP.NET Core.

.NET Core 2.2 Preview 2 can be used with Visual Studio 15.8, Visual Studio for Mac and Visual Studio Code.

Tiered Compilation Enabled

The biggest change in .NET Core 2.2 Preview 2 is tiered compilation is enabled by default. We announced that tiered compilation was available as part of the .NET Core 2.1 release. At that time, you had to enable tiered compilation via application configuration or an environment variable. It is now enabled by default and can be disabled, as needed.

You can see the benefit of tiered compilation in the image below. The baseline is .NET Core 2.1 RTM, running in a default configuration, with tiered compilation disabled. The second scenario has tiered compilation. You can see a significant request-per-second (RPS) throughput benefit with tiered compilation enabled.

The numbers in the chart are scaled so that baseline always measures 1.0. That approach makes it very easy to calculate performance changes as a percentage. The first two tests are TechEmpower benchmarks and the last one is Music Store, our frequent sample ASP.NET app.
