PDragon, what Mike said will work to quickly get to a Command Prompt, just right click on the Start Button. If you've changed that to use Powershell Admin, that will work also for that command (SYSTEMINFO).

Appears you have left for the evening. Good night, and please post back that install date. Thanks, TC.

@PDragon - if you don't already have this app, it is recommended. ShowKeyPlus Retrieves your product key(s). Follow the instructions here Showkey - Windows 10 Forums and store the output somewhere safe away from the computer! Like print it!

    .NET Framework 3.5 Not installing

    @PDragon, Good morning.

I don't want to stray too far from your initial question, how to get the .net 3.5 installed. But it concerns me that you may have other issues that may cause you problems going forward.

I can show you how to use the ISO you downloaded yesterday to install .net 3.5, and after it successfully installs and you are satisfied, be finished. It's your choice.

    but...

The fact you cannot do updates through Check for Updates, even after a reset, concerns me. Even if we get the .net 3.5 installed, you may not be able to get the security updates. You said you have never, that you can remember, done any updates. You are still on 10586.0, which is the build and version released 7/29/15, first one to the public. Current is 10586.318.

Here are a few things we would like to know, we need a better picture of what you have right now...

    1. When was Windows 10 upgraded? Important! (see posts above) If you want a text file copy of the system information on your Desktop that you can look at with Notepad, copy/paste this command into a ADMIN COMMAND PROMPT and press enter:

    systeminfo >%userprofile%\desktop\SysInfo.txt

    2. Are there any updates at all on your PC? Settings>Update and Security>Update History>Uninstall Updates. Your update history will show empty because you ran WURESET, Uninstall Updates gives a list of installed updates - do not uninstall anything! Just look.

    3. When you upgraded from 8.1 to 10 using the Media Creation Tool, did you go directly to update or make a USB thumb drive first?

    4. When (date) was the last time you did a full image backup and what method did you use? Is your personal data backed up (pics, documents, etc.)? Is there a backup of your 8.1 system prior to doing the upgrade?

    5. Do you have all your system/product keys available and stored away from the computer? (see my previous post about ShowKey)

    6. Verify, please, that your system is activated. Settings>Update & security>Activation (left side)

    7. Any other information that you think would be helpful.

    8. You should fill in your system specs and info here on the forum, as detailed as possible. It gives us a better picture of your particular setup. Instructions are here: System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums - Windows 10 Forums

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I realize all of this may look like a lot of work on your part, and not trying to scare you off, but the better informed we are, the better we an try to help.

    TC

It has been activated since I downloaded it. And I went directly to the update once I downloaded the installation tool.

One quick question, am I going to have to re-install Windows???
If so, I might make a mistake and delete all of my files, who knows?
And if I am threatened that the reset will do that, I'll just stop trying to fix .NET and not allow me to use most of my applications.

    PDragon, good afternoon!

I want to be absolutely clear in my mind what you are saying.

    1. You upgraded from 8.1 directly with the Media Creation Tool on 2/26/16.
    2. You do not know how to do a backup on Windows.
    3. You do not have a backup prior to the upgrade. I'm assuming this if you don't know how to do one.
    4. You have not done any updates through Windows Updates that you can recall.

Please tell me if all of these statements are true or not.

@PDragon, doing a clean install is the last option, the last. We can use the ISO you downloaded yesterday to do what is called a Repair Install. It keeps all your files and programs, just refreshes the Windows 10 files. But first.... we need to get your system backed up! That is crucial. Please respond so we can proceed. Thanks.
