Windows 10: .NET Framework Intitialization Error In Neuro-Programmer 3

I switched over to a computer using Windows 10 from Windows 7, and can no longer use Neuro-Programmer 3. I keep getting the error:


"Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location"


I understand that the program is trying to get the root fill in HKLM registry key to access the .NET Framework location, the question is how do I do that?


The company which put out the software isn't going to be any help, as they've folded up shop after about 20 years; the owner was having some health issues, so he retired and took his proprietary software with him.


Some owners (according to the forums I've seen on this software) have gone to extreme lengths to get this program up and running, such as loading a virtual box, loading a backup copy of Windows 7 on that location, then loading Neuro-Programmer 3. I don't think I should have to go through all that when I'm thinking there's probably an easier software fix...if I can just suss it out with some help.

I suggest you to un-check and recheck .Net framework 3.5 and .Net framework 4.6 advance series from Windows features.

Try the following steps:

• Press Windows + R keys to open Run command.
• Type Appwiz.cpl and select "turn Windows feature on or off" from the left
• Uncheck .Net framework 3.5 and .Net framework 4.6 advance series.
• Restart the computer
• Repeat step 1 and 2 and check .Net framework 3.5 and .Net framework 4.6 advance series.
• Restart the computer.

Basically, to sum up what I can tell:
-The application(s) that crashed use .NET Framework 2.0 or 3.5.
-First error is it getting nothing when it expected something (not very telling).
-Second error occured in "System.Data.SQLite" which is not .NET Framework. I repeat, not .NET Framework.
-SQLite is is a GNU licenced, free to use library.
-Any .NET-compiled service or process could be causing the error. If you watch the Task Manager, you might be able to tell which process closes after you click on "Quit."

I suggest you search your computer for sqlite*.dll. Whatever programs it is found in close proximity to are most likely the culprits for the crashes.

OK, the Windows 10 Feature installation method should have been straightforward, but since that errored out as well, something else seems to be going on with your Windows, so wait for somebody with more experience to suggest a way out.

In the mean time, if you haven't already, you could give muchomurka's suggestion a go as well with the elevated prompt and an install media to see if it works. The following link shows the detailed steps involved.
