Windows 10: net share cdrive=c:\ gives Access is denied

I have a brand new PC with Windows 11 preinstalled. All Windows updates are current as of today.When I open a command prompt and type this I get:C:\net share cdrive=c:\I get "System error 5 has occurred.""Access is denied."Why am I getting that error and what can I do to gain access. Another PC I have the same command works fine.Thank you.

Hi all

I stupidly ticked the wrong box whilst trying to remove a program protected by microsofts trusted installer and i've now lost access to my c drive..

I unticked the full control box for system in the permissions screen and i cant get back to that screen to give it full access again...

I've tried cmd prompts takeown , icacls with no luck, i've tried it in safe mode but whenever i click on the cdrive's security tab it will not display the owner and it wont give me access to change or advanced it just comes up with a windows security box
stating can't open access control editor. Access is denied

I can't system restore because the restore point is in the cdrive... i cant launch start up repair as it wont work.... nothing i try seems to work so i reallly need some help.....

Hi Rebekah,

It's possible that you're not using an elevated command prompt, causing the Access Denied error. We suggest following these steps to properly disable the built-in administrator account:

• Right-click the Start button.
• Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
• Copy and paste net user Administrator /active:no and press
  Enter. If the command isn't successful, please post a screenshot so that we can study it further.

Let us know if you're able to hide the administrator account after following these steps.

 

LAPTOP is not accessible ..... Access is denied.

I am trying to share a folder on a LAPTOP. I have other a number of other systems that have folders Shared and they work fine, but with this one I get the error "LAPTOP is not accessible ..... Access is denied." when I try to access it from a different Win10 system. So I went thru the entire "How to Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10" tutorial step by step. File and Print Sharing is enabled, SMB1.0 client & server are running, and Everyone has Full Access to the Share. Still get the error. I have tried it with the Network Public and Private, with the same result. Any suggestions ? Microsoft Windows 10 Home Version 10.0.19042 Build 19042
