  1. Network Adapter Reset broke everything

My girlfriend's ASUS laptop was having trouble connecting to wifi. After trying a few things first, she ran Network Reset as a last ditch effort. This completely broke everything. I can't type anything into Cortana. I can't open settings (I just see the giant blue screen with the gear logo forever). I don't see the wifi option in the lower right at all. Still can't connect to wifi.

The WLAN AutoConfig service is off. When I try to turn it on, I get a 1068 error. That's probably why the wifi isn't working, but I think I have bigger problems than wifi at this point. I tried downloading the latest driver, which didn't work either.

I tried running sfc/scannow in command prompt which said it detected problems and fixed them, but nothing new happened. I've restarted after trying everything. I also tried starting in safe mode and scanning for viruses using kaspersky.

Let me know what additional information would be useful to know. I'm a Mac user so I'm not too familiar with Windows. I'm not sure what else I can try. Any help would be appreciated!

    Resetting Network Adapter

While I have read several suggestions for resetting the network adapter, they all involve rebooting the PC. I am wondering why the Windows Network and Internet troubleshooter doesn't reboot after resetting the adapter? Whatever it does appears (mostly) to solve my network connection issues and a solution that doean't involve rebooting would be an improvement.

    Network Adapter Reset broke everything

    Network adapter

    Hi Ryan,

Let's work on this together. Have you restarted your device since then? This should reinstall the network adapters automatically. If it didn't, let's perform the Network reset.
It removes any network adapters you have installed and the settings for them. After your PC restarts, any network adapters are reinstalled, and the settings for them are set to the defaults.
    Follow these steps:

    • Go to Settings > Network & Internet >
      Status
      > Network reset.
    • On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes.
    • Wait for your PC to restart and see if that fixes the problem.

    Please advise as necessary.
