Windows 10: Network Adaptor Suddenly Can't Find Any Networks

Hello,


Two days ago, my desktop stopped detecting wifi networks out of the blue. My phone and work laptop can easily pick up the 6+ networks in my area, but for some reason my computer can no longer find any. The desktop does still work over ethernet or via a USB tethered hotspot, but no luck with wifi all of a sudden.


I have tried everything I can think of checking that wifi is on and airplane mode is off, network troubleshooter, checking for new drivers, uninstalling the adaptor and rebooting, downloading the latest driver from the ASUS website and I can't get it to work :

You may follow the steps provided below and check if it helps to resolve the issue

Windows has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Internet connection. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your internet.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the Internet Connection troubleshooter

Method 2: Try updating the latest Network Adapter drivers from the manufacturer's website and check if the issue persists.

  Follow the steps to update the Network Adapter drivers:
  
• 
  Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.
  
• 
  Expand Network Adapter.
  
• 
  Right-click on the Ethernet and click on Update driver software.
  
• 
  Restart the computer and check.
  

For games I suggest you to disable the proxy settings and then try to download the games.

I won't click Me Too because not sure it's identical.

NB: apparently for some problems going to Network Adaptor in Device Mgr and doing UnInstall is step 1.

Reboot re-installs it auto-magically. Which is step 2.

Alas, I ended up with Driver up to date, Adaptor working fine, but
"Missing Protocol" which halts cable network

So no LAN.

Vista or XP?

You need to go in and delete the network. Then it will pick it up again, and ask you to enter the key again.

On Vista, you do this by going into Networking and Sharing Center. The click on Customize, then click on Merge or delete network locations. Find the SSID of the router in the list, and delete it.

On XP, I believe you have to go to Network Connections, then right click on your Wireless Adaptor. Go to Status, and there should be a button to Manage Wireless Networks, that should take you to where you need to be to delete the network.
