Windows 10: Network and Ethernet Controller under “other devices” instead of Network Adapters

Hi! Recently on my HP laptop, my wireless network controller has been under the “other devices” tab in my device manager and everytime I try to manually download an update or a new driver file, it comes up with an error. Now, when I tried to check this I hooked up my ethernet cable to the router and now my “Ethernet Controller” is under the other devices tab as well, completely keeping me from internet access. I even tried to download onto a USB and transfer Intel drivers to my computer from there but my USB goes under the other devices tab with an error as well!

Please help, this is a 5-6 year old HP laptop in relatively good shape and I’d love to get its full use out of it. Thank you.

Install a driver for your network adapter

Go to the list of network adapters in the control panel, turn of the lan and turn it on again. See if that helps.

 

No Network Adapter showing

I have found the appropriate driver from the hardware ID (ven_14E4 dev_163b) and installed it. The install appears to have completed without issue, but now, instead of "Other Devices> !Ethernet controller" I have "Broadcom Skinny BCM5716 etc" under System
Devices, and still no Network Adapter category.

I have no ethernet connectivity as Network Connections show no network adapters.

I realise that there is little manufacturer support from Dell for consumer Windows versions, with the T310 being server hardware, but hoped that the third-party driver would work. Should I try to find another driver, or is there a workaround to get windows
to recognise it as a network adapter?

If I update the driver with the windows-installed broadcom netxtreme gigabit, it warns me, installs driver, and I get the hardware listed under Network Adapters, but with an exclamation mark. If I then upgrade driver to my downloaded one, Network Adapters disappears,
and the broadcom goes back under System Devices.

To resolve this issue, we suggest that you run the Network troubleshooter when you switch from WiFi to Ethernet connection. The Network troubleshooter can help diagnose and fix common connection problems including clearing the network cache to obtain a new
IP from the new network. Kindly follow the steps below:

• In the search box on the taskbar, type Identify and repair network problems, and then select
  Identify and repair network problems from the list of results.
• Follow the steps in the troubleshooter and see if that fixes the problem.

We recommend that you try the steps on the Update the network adapter driver,
Run the Network troubleshooter followed by networking commands, and Use network reset to reinstall network devices sections.
