  1. Network Credentials

For the entire time that windows has supported networking, with a few brief exceptions, I have had nothing but trouble with accessing other computers on the network. I have suffered decades of “access denied” and “you don’t have permission.” I have set “allow anyone to do anything”, and Turned off “password protected everything” dozens of times over the years. MS’s latest irritation is “network credentials.” I never set any network credentials. I have no idea what they are or where to find them. Is there a checkbox somewhere to choose “stop hassling me about anything and everything?” I will take the risk. I do not use a password to log on to my computer and I don’t want to either. Can I not network at all unless I use a password to log in to windows? Appreciate your help. *Mad *Mad

  2. Network Credentials

I am trying to access music files on the shared family desktop from my laptop. Both are running windows 10. I can see both in the home group and I can access the laptop from the desk top. The laptop keeps asking for network access credentials or something
like that. I have require user name and password turned off on both machines.

    Networking Credentials

Hey thanks Brandon. Got it, The reason what I was doing didn't work is because she's not a User on my computer. But, I'm a user on her computer, so I put in MY credentials and it worked. Thanks for your help. It was your edit that did it for me.

  4. Network Credentials

    Hi wildttrout

Network Credentials are your log in (sign in) passwords, to the account you are logging on too on the device.

If your user accounts don't have passwords, local accounts without passwords, you should just be able to hit enter.

If you don't want to use log in passwords as an alternative you could set up a homegroup, yes it will have password, and then join your machines to that homegroup.

Its not the only way but a simple way for beginners is to have the same account and password on the pc your connecting to as by default windows trys to log you in with your current logged in account. people make a mistake were they can share something and give everyone right on the share but forget that once connected NTFS permission apply

  6. Thanks for your replies. I decided to use the homegroup option. As soon as I did that, the "network credentials" prompt went away?????????????
