Windows 10: Network devices fail to start (Code 10)

Windows fails to start my network devices (Intel I211 Eth & Intel 3168 WiFi-AC (both onboard an ASRock Fata1ity AB350 Gaming-ITX a/c mainboard, firmware v6.31)


The issue first appeared for Windows version 1903 only if KB4515384 was installed. Uninstalling and blacklisting this KB fixed the the issue.

After updating to 1909 said network devices fail to start with error code 10 in Device Manager.

The problem also occurs on 20H1-19013/19018/19023.


Driver versions affected (for Eth):Microsoft's built in driver

Intel driver provided via Windows Update

Intel driver pack obtained directly from Intel v24.2

Intel driver pack obtained directly from Intel v24.3

Intel driver pack obtained from mainboard manufacturer (ASRock) v21.1


Driver versions affected (for WiFi):Microsoft's built in driver

Intel driver pack obtained directly from Intel v21.50.1


Intel driver pack obtained directly from Intel v21.40.2


What I tried so far: Going through several driver versions as noted above

Ugrading to 20H1

Resetting the PC through the Settings Menu (reinstall but keep personal files)Completely fresh installation of 1909 (with and w/o AMD chipset drivers (1.9.27.1033) just to see if that makes a difference - it does not)

Hardware is not faulty and behaves as expected on an Archlinux installation on the same hardware.

Maybe it's time to step back from the current efforts, and start over. I suggest you read over this excellent tutorial and try all of its steps: [Solved] Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) for Windows 10 - Driver Easy. The one that may provide you with some easy relief is the one where you uninstall the device whose descriptor is failing, reboot, and see what happens when device enumeration recurs during boot-up. If you're lucky, it will fix itself.

Have you tried updating the driver for the HID-compliant mouse?

Follow these steps on how to update the driver:

To do this, follow these steps:

• In Device Manager, click the Driver tab in the device's Properties dialog box.
• Click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard.
• Follow the instructions to update the driver.

If that does not work, we suggest you contact the manufacturer of your laptop directly and ask for updated drivers for Windows 10.

my bios is and custom unlocked bios (latest version) (thanks to Bios Mods -The Best BIOS Update and Modification Source ) because of lenovo hardware whitlist maybe thats causing the problem???
