    Network Devices invisible after Windows Update to Build 16299.125

    Yesterday I ran a Windows update in my office on all laptops and PCs.

    Now, something strange is happening since today.

    In the Network, most of my devices are missing.

    On all laptops and PCs, in the network I can see only one computer named "ADMIN" except on one laptop which is not able to see any computer.
    On one PC, I am able too all devices in the network and access them too.

    I tried running the homegroup troubleshooter, which changed the network type to Private.
    After changing the network type to private on all devices, I was able to view some of them on a couple of machines, but I am still unable to view them all.

    What exactly is happening?

    :)

    Feature „switch to language“ don't work in Windows 10.

    „Are both languages still available on the device after the update?“

    Yes

    „Which build version is currently installed on your device?“

    System → About

    Edition: Windows 10 Enterprise

    Version: 1709

    OS Build: 16299.125

  3. After going back from build 16299.125 to 15063.850, how do I block 16299.125 from being installed?

    PC is a laptop with Celeron 1007U.

    On 12 January 2018, this is what happened:

    • Windows 10 upgraded from build 15063.850 to build 16299.125;
    • I clicked on Start, and selected "Shut down";
    • After a few hours, I pressed the power button, and Windows 10 didn't start (and I waited 2 hours to see if it will start, and it didn't);
    • I pressed and hold the power button for a few seconds, to force a shut down;
    • I pressed the power button, and Windows 10 started;

    So, I have to force a shut down every time I want to start Windows 10.

    This problem never occurred when build 15063.850 and all previous builds were installed, and it appeared immediately after build 16299.125 was installed.

    In "Settings > Updates & security > Recovery" I went back from build 16299.125 to 15063.850, and this solved the problem.

    But if build 16299.125 will install again, the problem might appear again.

    Question: Is it possible to somehow block build 16299.125 from being installed automatically, so that build 15063.850 will remain installed until the next build after 16299.125 will be released? If yes, then how do I do this?

    Make sure that they are all set to private, do not use Home Group, use standard Network share with your office. All units need to be set to Private, make sure that any Internet Security software you are using, that the network is set to Trusted. Open up Command on each computer and run net view to see what it shows.

    I already mentioned, they are all set to private.
    And all of them use the default sharing and not the homegroup. I only used the homegroup troubleshooter to make the network Private on all devices.

    Is this happening with you after the update as well?

    Hey lolcocks,
    Sometimes on that update, network stuff gets reset. You've already set network profile back to private, have you double checked all the other network settings ??? If so, can you still access the network shares in File Explorer > Address Bar by using \\THE_PC_NAME or \\PC_INTERNAL_IP_ADDRESS ???

    If you can access the network shares using the above ...
    1. Start the following Services and set Startup Type to Auto to see if the network shares show up in File Explorer > Networking. It may take a couple minutes or even a reboot.
    a. Function Discovery Provider Host
    b. Function Discovery Resource Publication
    2. You can map network share - Map Network Drive in Windows 10 Network Sharing Tutorials
    3. It could be a SMBv1 issue, where SMBv1 (Server or Client or Both) got uninstalled - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...r-version-1709

  9. #metoo - Since the last CU, on my PRO system, file explorer lost the ability to access "NetGear's ReadyShare" but on my HOME system, it sees the Readyshare USB with no problem. Obviously I can and have mapped it as a network drive on the PRO system, but it really P**'s me off that M.S. just changed something on a CU and that feature no longer works.

    i managed to have shares working again by doing on/off and OK on the network card's "File And Printer Sharing For Microsoft Networks", it's odd but works until a proper fix!

    Hey storageman,
    Depending on what SMB version your Netgear router uses (older ones use SMBv1), you need to check your Pro system and make sure SMBv1 is still installed ... Control Panel > Program and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off > SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support. Also, Win10 1709 added a SMB 1.0/CIFS Automatic Removal, so you can either uncheck the box or go to Task Scheduler > Microsoft > Windows > SMB and disable the 2 tasks it adds.

    Note: I have an older Netgear WNDR4000 Router and use ReadyShare USB File Sharing. It uses SMBv1 (Server), so I have to have SMBv1 installed, but I only need the Client part. I have the Server part disabled. Check this thread, post #11 Win7 PC not seeing online Win10 PC after boot - Page 2 - Windows 10 Forums

    I followed each instruction on all my computers.
    On about 50% of the machines it worked, on 50% of the machines it didn't.
    I double checked on the PCs it didn't work on, redid everything, nothing changed on the PCs it didn't work on. Still unable to view devices in network.

    Any other solutions?

    In settings > Network> Status > at the bottom > Network Reset. PC will restart in 5 minuets. When it comes back up, there will be a box asking do you want this PC to be discovered. Check yes. That fixed mine.
