Windows 10: Network Drive Error: X:\ is unavailable. If the location.... close and reopen folder.

Hello, one of our users is having this issue with one of our network drives. they are the only one having this issue. It will periodically give the drive is unavailable error, and the folders will be empty. all the user has to do is reenter into the drive and folders, and they come back up. Usually via the quick links on the left hand side of File Explorer. what can i do to resolve this issue?

CD drive error

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

UpperFilters
LowerFilters
UpperFilters.bak
LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

And it likely has something to do with the emulated drive you have listed there.

 

all my network drives have red X's

Nothing changed, the PC froozed and I rebooted. I open my PC, all eleven drives have red X's but some I can access, some it says network location can not be restored. I have zero idea what happened but I disconnected each one, and each one I disconnected,
explorer would close, so I had to reopen my PC, disconnect, my PC closed, I reopened it, disconnect and it close, this went on for each 11 drives. Then as usually, I open network and I got nothing, even though i can type the UNC? I hope i said that right into
the address bar, but the computer rarely shows up in the network icon.

 

"Location is unavailable" for C: folder.

Hi Jeff,

This error message usually appears when the hard drive files get damaged or corrupted.
Restoring folder's default location or recovering the data and formatting the disk would help diagnose and address this problem. Make sure to log in as the administrator. Follow the steps below:

• To restore to default location.

1. Go to C:\Users.

2. Open the folder name with your user name.

3. Right-click on the desktop and select Properties.

4. Under the Location tab, click the Restore Default button.

5. Once done, restart your PC.

• Verify the permissions set on the file.

1. Open File Explorer.

2. Right-click the file folder and select Properties.

3. Go to Security and select Advanced.

4. Check the box for Replace all child object permission entries with permission entries from this object at bottom.

5. Click Apply, then OK.

Once done, try accessing the folder again and let us know how it goes.
