Windows 10: Network Error: Windows cannot open Computer2

    Network Error: Windows cannot open Computer2


    2 Computer Network connected using an Ethernet Crossover cable between the on board RJ-45 connector on each PC. Both ping successfully, both display the other computers name, but one gives me the Network Error and Windows cannot open Computer2.


    I have shared the drive, and the folder to be shared out of desperation, but it still doesn't work.


    Computer1 - Windows 10 Pro IP address 192.168.1.1; subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    Computer2 -Windows 10 Home IP address 192.168.1.2; subnet mask: 255.255.255.0


    Both computer have the same shared permission on the file (Everyone and Full control)


    Both computer display the other in File Explorer, but Computer2 gives me the network error and Computer1 access everything correctly.


    I'm at a loss. Any other suggestion would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Network computer not shown in Network-list

    I have acces to a computer in the network with \\Computer2\ in the file explorer.

    This computer however is not shown in the NETWORK-list. Others are shown.

    In order to understand the issue in a better manner, please share the following details


    • Do you get any error message, when trying to open network and sharing center?
    I suggest you to follow the steps below to fix the issue.

    Method 1: Install all the Windows 10 pending updates and check if it helps.

    I suggest you check for the pending updates in resolving the issue.


    • In search type Check for updates and hit enter.

    • Click on Check for updates.

    • Windows 10 will automatically install all the pending updates.
    If the issue still persist, suggest you to try the below step to fix the issue.

    Method 2: I suggest you to
    Run the DISM Tool and check.

    The DISM tool checks the system health and will try to restore the files.

    • Right click on the Start button, click on Command Prompt (Admin).
    • In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press the
      Enter key after each command:
    • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

    • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    To close the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type
    Exit, and then press Enter.

    Anton,

    If you click on "Network" in the left pane of File Explorer and then enter "\\Computer2" (no quotes) in the address bar replacing "Network", does your computer then show up in the network list?
