  2. Network List Service (netprofm) getting disabled after system restart

    Hi All,

    Whenever I restart my system Network List Service (netprofm) is getting disabled and stopped. Everytime I had to manually start it to get the network connectivity. Is it some kind of bug in Windows 10?

    Moreover, in the event logs, I'm seeing multiple occurrences of the below logs (when I set the service startup to Automatic and start it, in the backend it's getting disabled)

    -> The start type of the Network List Service service was changed from auto start to disabled.

    -> Event ID;7040

    -> Source: Service Control Manager

    -> User is coming as "SYSTEM"

    Attached the screenshot for reference!

    Network List Service (netprofm) getting disabled after system restart

    Hi Karthikeyan,

    Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

    I understand that the Network List Service disables after restart. For clarity, please let us know:

    • Are you using any VPN applications on the system?
    • Is your computer connected to domain?
    We can check DCOM settings and see if it helps.

    Before proceeding, make sure to create a System Restore point on the computer.

    Important: This method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back
    up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/322756/how-to-back-up-and-restore-the-registry-in-windows

    • Press Windows key + R, to open Run window.
    • Type dcomcnfg and click on OK. This should open
      Component Services window.
    • Browse to Component Services/Computers/My Computer/DCOM Config/netprofm
    • Right click on netprofm and select
      Properties.
    • Go to Security tab. Under Launch and Activation
      Permissions click on Edit and then click on
      Add
    • Type Local Service under object names,
      check
      name and click on OK.
    • In Permissions highlight Local Service and check the boxes under
      Allow for Local Launch and Local Activation. Click on
      OK.

    If you get any permission errors you may want to check the permissions for registry key for C96887DA-A652-4426-905E-4A37546F847C}. You can press
    Windows key + R, to open Run window and type regedit and click on OK.

    Registry Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID\{C96887DA-A652-4426-905E-4A37546F847C}

    You can now try and change the settings in Services.msc from disabled to
    Automatic for Network List Service.

    If your computer is connected to domain, then I would recommend you to get in touch with your IT administrator.

    However, if issue persists, I would suggest you to post this query in our
    TechNet Forums
    where you will find the appropriate support for security issues related to domain and enterprise environments.

    Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Vivian S

    Network List Service (netprofm.dll) high CPU [Fix]

    Service Host: Network List Service hogging CPU

    I have a Surface Go running Windows 10 (not 10S), and recently (last few weeks) whenever it wakes from Sleep "Network List Service" starts using at least 30% of my CPU. Often my combined CPU use is 100%. This goes on for a minute or more. None of my
    other computers have this problem. Suggestions?
