Network Policy Server IP Filters queries

    Hi All,

I recently prepare for the windows server 2016 exam 70-740.

I come across a NPS IP filters question which I do not understand very well.

    Original Question as below:

You have an IP Filters Network Policy Server (NPS) template that is used by an NPS policy. The IP filters are configured as shown in the following exhibit.

Network Policy Server IP Filters queries 204e48a3-8eaf-4330-8323-a04c0c8b73aa?upload=true.png

Can anyone explain to me the inbound filter and outbound filter and when I should use inbound or outbound IP filters ?

    Thank you,

    Johnny

    :)

  2. Windows 10 - "One or more network protocols are missing" and no DNS server

    Hi Tyler,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Sorry for the inconvenience you are facing. I would suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps:

    Step 1: Reset TCP/IP

One of the components of the Internet connection on your computer is a built-in set of instructions called TCP/IP. TCP/IP can sometimes become damaged or corrupted.

Follow the steps below to reset the winsock entries and TCP/IP stack and to troubleshoot the issue further.

    • Press Windows Key + X together and select Command Prompt (admin).

    • Type the following command and hit Enter after each:
netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

    • Reboot the computer and check.
Step 2: Flush your computer's DNS cache.

    • Press Windows Key + X together and select Command Prompt (admin).

    • At the command prompt, type the following commands. Press Enter after each command.
    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /registerdns

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

I would suggest you to refer to the troubleshooting steps given in the article below and check if it helps:

  3. Windows 10 1709 update loses network card wifi & wired

    Fixed it.

I encountered a PC with the same problem, and none of the usual recommended repair steps had any effect (netsh int reset et al, Windows 10 Network Reset tool). In my case the DHCP client service was using 100% of one CPU core, and setting a static IP address
didn't help. System Restore had no intact restore points to work with, and the 1709 update couldn't be rolled back.

In the end I found this fix that worked for me, suggesting a problem with the Base Filtering Engine:

Launch regedit, and delete the entries in:

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\BFE\Paramters\Policy\BootTime\Filter and

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\BFE\Paramters\Policy\Persitent\Filter

    As suggested in:

    Ping General Failure

After a reboot both network interfaces were able to get IP addresses and have worked fine ever since.

Base Filtering Engine Windows 10 Causes BSOD

    Hi Peter,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

Did you try to enable the Base Filtering Engine service? Is it crashing?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

To manually reset TCP/IP, follow these steps:

Note You must be logged on to the computer as an administrator to perform the steps.

For Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

    • On the Start screen, type CMD. In the search results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
    • At the command prompt, enter the following command, and then press Enter:
    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Note if you don't want to specify a directory path for the log file, run the following command instead:

    netsh int ip reset

    Restart the computer.

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help
