Network share issue - some folder access okay, others inaccessible...

    Hi Guys,

This one has slowly been driving me nuts for a few weeks now. Not sure when the error popped up, as previously all worked well, so I suspect it's down to one of the latest cumulative updates!

Here's the low-down: I have two PCs ("a960" & "b960")connected via Ethernet through a router. The config of both machines is near identical (Win 10 Pro 64-bit)and both have a single hard drive, divided into two partitions. The system disk (OS/ software) is "C:", the other partition is where all user data is kept "D:"

All of the 'user' folders have been redirected to D: (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos). I have shared the entire "D:" on each PC, with full access to everyone. In network settings, everything is enabled (network discovery, file and print sharing), but password protection is off.

The problem is, that even though all folders are visible from each machine, only the Downloads folder is accessible - all of the others give the old "Windows cannot access/you do not have permission..." error when I try and access them.

The problem is the same on each machine - only the "Downloads" folder is accessible...

I even went as far as to try and set the sharing on the individual folders (rather than the entire D: ), but this gave the same error message.

I've attached a few pics, which may help to visualise what's happening

Now all I need is a solution! Network share issue - some folder access okay, others inaccessible... :)

As usual, all comments and suggestions greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Mike.

  2. Sharing to select network users

I have full administrator access. The sharing of the files isnt the issue. I’m able to share and limit useof network folders but only in broad terms, its restricting the access to some but not others

I see the “everybody” selection under security rolls and with that option everyone has access. Im looking for “workstation/User” security roll. So I can share some files to select networked users or conditional file access pending password promps.

Example: files are shared from “masterPC” “User A” is the manager. I want him to have full access to compleet network and all folders when they are loged in from workstation1. But “User B” is not a manager so they can only access limited networked file
folder fromthe same workstation1 when loged into userB.

  3. Microsoft Windows Network: Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name are not allowed.

    Hi Sheik,

Thanks for the update. We apologize for the delay in response.

The pop-up will show on the screen until the changes are laid on all the files and folders you are making changes to. Click on
Continue until the pop-up disappears and check if the issue is resolved.

The above issue might occur if you do not have a healthy internet connection on your PC or the PC from which the folder is inaccessible. Since
Public folder is accessible by other PCs on the network, the internet connection on the all the connected machines should be healthy to prevent any issues from occurring.

Henceforth if you are to face the above issue, restart the PCs i.e. the one to access the folder and the one to share on the network and check if the issue is resolved. Also check the network connection availability on the machines.

Write to us with the status of the issue for further assistance. Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.
