I have a desktop PC network shared at home for nearly 20 years.I sometimes have network issues as many do but this new one is hard to fathom.I bought 2 identical brand new Lenovo laptops and installed virtually identical software on them. Win10 is truly identical. Being brand new the SSD was empty not even formatted. From one laptop I can access my desktop shared file, say: \\mydesktop\myfiles but from the other laptop it refuses to connect quoting the usual permission issue. My desktop shared file permissions set to: everyoneI have checked each laptop for identical configs including fire

    Network share mystery

Pc2 will be the master browser which is asked for a list of pcs on the network. When you say you can't connect what happens errors. Can you connect via name or IP is \\192.168.1.5\share normally you should be able to connect via IP when master browser is off

    network sharing mystery

    Network share mystery

I've had issues with connecting to shares on my local network in the past as well - especially frustrating since I initially maintained a connection for months prior to experiencing access issues. Ultimately, the solution that worked in my case was to create my own share in which to connect - so in that aspect, the connections you are currently using, are they utilizing the default system shares (i.e. C$) ??

If so, you may be able to resolve your problem by creating a new share of your own ... name it whatever you wish and you don't even have to use a dollar sign as a suffix! LOL

Should this not be a viable work-around for you, my only other suggestion right off would be to access your home router and perhaps see if setting up a port forwarding rule would work ... since you can access one system but not the other, you could set up a rule to forward a connection to the other system stemming from the system you can access?

I may be thinking wrong... it's been a minute since I've used any type of port forwarding. I suppose, contrary to what I said about having only one other suggestion... I remembered one more network sharing mystery :p

When you set up the connection, are you setting it up as a mapped network drive or a network location? Whether this is common knowledge or understood, they are different... normally, I like to have a network location as opposed to a mapped network drive, though I've found at times a mapped network drive is the only way I can actually maintain a connection. It's curious... I'm not really sure why.
