Network Sharing Showing Wrong Files After Clean Install

I have a windows 7 PC and a windows 10 laptop connected through a wireless home network. I was able to share files between both computers until I changed hard-drives in the windows 7 machine and performed a clean install. Now I am only able to see my win7 PC from my win10 laptop and, not able to see any other computers from the Win7 PC. When I access the user files and mydocuments folders, of the PC from my laptop, old files are shown from before the clean install and no new files are shown. I can try to delete and transfer files but the changes do not actually happen.

It is as though the network did not recognize that I had done a clean install on one of the machines. It is showing the old files from before. I did use the same username when setting up widows, maybe that is causing some confusion? Both machines are on the same workgroup id: "WORKGROUP". I don't think it is aan issue with WIn7 communicating with Win10 since I was able to share files just fine before the hard-drive change and clean install. I am still able to see other attached devices such as printers and use them from both machines.

I have tried to search for a solution but I am really having a hard time finding anything with this exact same issue, an I am even a little unsure of how to describe it in short. I really need to get to the bottom of this it is a huge inconvenience for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd be happy to provide any additional information that might be needed.

    :)

Need Help With File Sharing over a network

this can definitely be made to work, as i do it in my house easily.

that said, there is so many steps along the way you've ignored and not told us about, you REALLY need to go back to the basics and start from scratch.

share a folder, and see if you can connect manually via the IP address of the system.

do NOT ever expect the shares to magically just show up in the networking section of windows XP, that was an old, buggy, almost useless feature that never really worked right.

  3. Block File sharing in Wifi network, Windows 10

    Hi Lori,

As per the description, I understand that you want to block file sharing on your Wi-Fi network. I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if it helps.

    • Right click on Start and select Control Panel.
    • Change the view type to Large Icons.
    • Click on Network and Sharing center.
    • In the left navigation pane, click on Advanced sharing center.
    • In the right pane, under Files and printer sharing, select the option:
Turn off file and printer sharing.
    • Restart the system and check for status.

How to selectively share files via network on different PCs in v1803?

I am having exactly the same problem as Kabigon described. My two computers show up under "Network" in File Explorer. When I click on the other computer it lists the Users (if they have at least one file shared with "Everyone"). But I cannot share a file with a single user. If anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate the info.
Brink, if no one comes up with a Windows 10 network solution I may end up with a NAS.
