  1. Network sharing

I am not a newbie but there is a lot I have yet to learn. I do not have a homegroup set up but on my Windows 8 machine I can see all of my Windows 7 machines (2). On both of my Windows 7 machines I can see all of my other Windows 7 machine and the Windows 8 machine. My Windows server does see all of the Windows 7, 8 & 10 machines. On my two windows 10 machines ("out-of-the-box") I can ONLY see the machine that I look at. What must I check or do PLEASE to enable the Windows 10 machines to see and be seen by the Windows 7 machines and the windows 8 machine? Thank you.

    :)

  2. Networking sharing

    Hi Debbie,

If password protective sharing keeps on turning even after disabling it from the
advanced sharing settings, our next option is to manually disable it through Group policy. To do this, follow these steps:

    • Press the Windows + R key to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type lusrmgr.msc in the Run dialog box and press
      OK.
    • Click Users.
    • Locate and right-click on Guest.
    • Select Properties.
    • On the Guest Properties window, click the Password never expires
      box and click OK.
    • Exit the dialog boxes and check if the issue persists.

Let us know should you need further assistance.

  3. Networking sharing

Under all networks I am trying to turn off password protective sharing. I save it and it automatically reverts back to password protective sharing on.

What is the fix for this?

    Network sharing

Hi Yrralrellim, welcome to the Ten Forums.

    Most obvious things to check:

    • Is Network Discovery turned on on the Windows 10 machines?
    • Is File and printer sharing turned on on the Windows 10 machines?
    • Is Public folder sharing turned on on the Windows 10 machines?

From what I can tell Win 10 networking is broken. I have the latest Insider build in a VM, Virtual Box 5, and from Win 10 I can't see any other system on my network, not even the Win 7 host. The VM network adapter is in Bridge mode so it get an IP in the same range as the host. From Win 7 I can see the 10 VM but can't access it. User name is the same on both, password is the same on both. I tried using my MS account as the login and still can't see any systems and even if other systems can see Win 10 VM they can't connect to it.

In order for Home Group to properly work, IPv6 needs to be enabled on all machines.

There is nothing wrong with Windows 10 Networking. The only issue is that there is a driver problem. Also those who use third party Internet Security Software that they were using with Windows 7 or 8, and then did the upgrade, that can also cause issues.

What driver problem? Both my Win 7 host system and the Win 10 VM get to the internet just fine and the Win 7 system can see every other device on the network so there is no network driver problem. As for AV/Malware/internet security program I don't use any (except Win Defender) on any of my systems. Just a waste of money and resources. So it isn't either of those.

  10. I use the Chrome browser. The Chrome browser supports IPv6 natively and doesn’t allow users to decide which protocol to use (however it did allow users to choose in older versions).

  11. I double-checked my settings as recommended by Kari (1st thread reply). NOW (for some unknown reason), the Windows 10 DESKTOP machine which is connected via Ethernet is showing all of my machines. The Windows 10 netbook is wireless only. I checked properties of the wireless connection on the netbook and it "said" that IPv6 connectivity was disabled. After using the Microsoft Fixit (#50440) to re-enable IPv6 and rebooting, the machine is still stuck on showing only the netbook. After running the fixit, the WiFi status did not change regarding IPv6. It still shows IPv6 connectivity with no network access. Could this be a driver\hardware problem with my Broadcom 802.11 abgn Wireless SDIO adapter? Should I need IPv6 to view all the machines on my network? Thanks much!
