  1. Network transfer fail

    Hi,

I am having problems transferring files over the network. I used 3 Windows machines (Two running Windows 10 and my server has Windows Server 2012 R2 installed) to run the test. See, when I copy files to and from my server (one of the three) to either of the other two machines, it starts copying and then randomly stops after a while. When I copy files from the two machines, excluding the server, the transfer is working fine, it's only the server giving trouble this time. While I can do a wipe and reload of windows, I would rather figure out the problem and fix it without reloading, because I had this problem on several machines and I don't wish to re-install windows all the time.

Before I started to copy the files, I ran an ipconfig as well as a ping command; Now we know it's the same network with the same Subnet and the all the ping's are successful, with Internet access (we'll get back to the internet access part).

While the transfer is taking place, it randomly stops somewhere along the line. One thing I noted while I transfer the files is that the faster it copies the quicker it drops; E.g. I copied it restricting the transfer speeds to 10-12MB/s by using a 10/100 switch. Then I used a Gigabit network switch and it transferred around about 24-26MB/s which is slow, but that is most probably due to the slow HDD which I'm copying from in the server. The time-lapse differs, meaning the transfer over the 10/100 switch is way longer than the copy from the Gigabit switch; So I assume that time doesn't affect the failure of the transfer, rather when it passes by a certain amount of data.

Strangely, when it fails I lose internet connection as well. If I wish to re-enable the internet connection and continue (by clicking 'Try again') the transfer, I then have to disable the connection I'm using (In this case an additional Gigabit LAN card) and enable it again. Whilst I don't have internet connection I am unable to reach either of the other two computers through the exact same ping test until the connection was re-enabled. I used both the on board and the LAN card with two different network switches, but the results were the same. I went and downloaded all the latest on board and LAN card drivers, no difference. I also updated all the Operating systems on all machines, still no difference.

I am running out of options. Please help me out, I'm stranded. Thank you! Network transfer fail :)

I took a screenshot and divided the beginning and after the fail of the transfer with a blue line.Thank you!!

Did our Epson printer get hacked?

Another question, is this on a home network or a work network? The steps @eidairaman1 listed are always a good first step. If this is on a work network you manage, I'd be much more concerned than the home one. It is possible someone is screwing with you, but malware could also be the culprit.
