Windows 10: Networking two computers with the same name must be kept like that

Hello, a customer of mine has a special problem.He's got two old photo developing stations that have been setup in Japan by the maker and can absolutely not be modified in any way.Each of them are identical, so they need the host PC linked to them to have the exact same IP address and computer name. The PCs are running Windows NT and of course this can't be changed either, but it's actually a more general problem I'm submitting, so it's unimportant here.So in order to access the Internet and his storage NAS, he added a network card on each PC with a different subnet than the machines'.Howeve

One computer cannot access other network computers.


So I've tried every troubleshooting step I know:

• Double checked that Net Bios was enabled
• Ran a bunch of network commands:
  • flushed DNS
  • registered dns
  • pinged and located the named computers successfully
• Reset my router to factory settings

Nothing works when I try to access via explorer. I'm still baffled by the fact that every other computer can access each other AND access this computer. It's just the outgoing connection from this machine that doesn't work.

Any thoughts?

But could you tell us why it appears to select a network status name based on your past Wi-Fi network connections, and then applies it to your wired Ethernet connection?

Thank you for the update and I apologize for the late response.

I suggest you to follow the steps and check if you are able to change the network name:

1. Press the
Windows + R keys and type
secpol.msc, and press Enter.

2. If prompted by
UAC, then click/tap on Yes.

3. In the left pane of Local Security Policy, click on
Network List Manager Policies.

4. In the right pane of
Network List Manager Policies, double click on your current network name.

5. In Network Properties, select
Name and type the name you prefer.

6. When finished, you can now close Local Security Policy.

7. Restart the computer.
