Yes, You can initialize it as GPT and clone it. The next thing you need to find out what type of internal HD they use: 2.5" or 3.5". With all in one, I suspect that they use 2.5" 1TB HD. You can go to HP website, put in your serial number, they should list your system specs in detail.

Thx again, I believe its a 3.5 I have been watch the HP disk changes and they all seem to be 3.5 but I will check. I can't assume this is important.....I am getting excited and I have not yet got the drive. lol

    Hi there

as others have suggested Keep the OS separate from all other HDD's / SSD's / partitions. If you only have a SINGLE 4TB drive there's nothing to stop you creating a partition for the Windows OS and a second (or more) partitions for your data.

An obvious advantage is if you need to re-format the OS (or "C" partition) you don't lose all your data - another one is that you can BACK UP your OS and store it on the other partition(s) -- and there's not so much data to back up either.

    Cheers

If I understood what I saw at HP support, it can use a standard 1" height 3.5" drive. (Cheaper than a 2.5" drive.)

Very good advice. I use WLM and also relocate all my mails to another disk so my C: Drive contains no data.

  6. Late to answer ... but here's an easy way to determine the way the drive was initailized

Select Disk List in the View menu (top or bottom) of Disk Management.

Thank you for that tip. I've been using a Command Prompt and diskpart to get this info. So much easier this way.

I have now received the Anker and seems to work OK..I have installed Acronis and it comes back with error, a problem with my source drive..I have run Chkdsk /r and it hangs at 11% and refuses to go any further...Any ideas??? I did check the error message on Acronis and someone said his done the same and a long file name was to blame..again any ideas how to find long file names???

    Thx for any help...Len

From an elevated command prompt ("run as administer" command prompt) try SFC /scannow

I haven't used Acronis True Image to clone, just to image and restore.

I vaguely recall getting long file name errors. I think that I just allowed TI to skip the file.

Random suggestion: did you try chkdisk /f? That just fixes files, it doesn't do anything about bad sectors on the disk.

Be patient and let it run. It seems to stall at time but will move on. chkdsk /r takes a long time to complete and also depend on how corrupted your HD is.

  14. Am I correct in that your original HDD had errors and you replaced that with a 4 TB drive and that is also exhibiting disk issues?

I'd like to see more details about your machine (Software, Hardware, and Firmware). The Speccy report serves two purposes, one to update your Tenforums specs, and two to provide the current operating environment.

Please update the Systems Specs in your forum profile with complete information.

    • In the System Manufacturer/Model Number field, manually type Desktop or Laptop adding it to the information already in the field. The specific model number is important - there are often many models of a given series.
For example, my machine is a HP Pavilion dv6, but there are tens of the dv6 series, so dv6-6c10us is the specific model.

    • Specify Custom Build as the manufacturer if it is not an OEM machine.
The easiest way to do this is to use the information from a PUBLISHED Speccy report.
See: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs

Post the link to the report that Speccy gives you and also open the Speccy link.
Then click here to view your System Specs on this forum.

When you have both windows open, put them side-by-side and simply copy the information, field by field, from the Speccy report to your System Specs.

To see what information other members provide in their System Specs, click on My System Specs in the lower left of any post by any member.
Two more requests from this side of you monitor

    1) Run a quick malware scan on your machine to rule out malicious code.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free - Windows 7 Help Forums
    2) Post a Disk management screen shot
I'd like to see your Disk Management.
Download this zip file (contains dmDskmgr-vd.mmc)

    dmDskmgr-vd.zip
Double click dmDskmgr-vd.zip to open the compressed folder
Double click dmDskmgr-vd.mmc to launch the custom Disk Management console
You'll get an output similar to this:

    New 4TB drive install.. [IMG]

Press Alt+PrtScn to grab a snapshot of just the Disk Management window
Open Paint and Ctrl+V to paste it, then save the image
Attach the image to a new post.

    Thanks

  15. Going back one step - make sure the connector for the HDD is firmly connected. The first time I replaced a SATA drive, I didn't have the connector snapped into the port.
