Yes. Some people use imgburn. I use Ultra ISO. You can download a portable version of Ultra ISO (no installation needed)
    UltraISOPortable_9.6.5.paf.exe
unzip to desktop, run it. Click on File->Open then select the ISO. Make sure it says Bootable CD/DVD as shown:

NOTE: The ISO is only 72MB insize, you can use a CD instead.

  3. Thanks for stepping in TopGun ...

    Yes, a CD is fine

You can burn the ISO to it using the native Windows Burn-to-disc. Select the ISO when the download is done and the tab should be up top.

Here is the Minitool How-to resize. Pretty much what TopGun already posted. There is a vido at the top of the How-to page if you prefer.

You're welcome Len - good choice on waiting until you get the disk schema settled.
Your drive is GPT, so you can slice and dice it anyway you choose.

I usually leave the largest chunk of space at the end of the drive. Seldom used files go out there (install files, backups, system images, ....). I have used different labels over time (The attic, the Basement, Cold Storage *Wink)

You know your needs better than I do, but it's easier to plan than to change.

    Just type the number into the "Partition Size" text box. 200GB: 1024 * 200 = 204800 , 150GB: 1024 * 150 = 153600 etc...

If you are making a habit of saving your personal data to another partition which you should then I think 150GB is plenty. Keeping Windows OS partition small, easy to backup/restore
    Type: 153600

I'll bet you are just copying the iso file itself to the DVD. The ISO file is like a compressed Zip file. You have to burn the image that is inside the ISO file. I use imgburn for that.

or, if you just install the Minitool Partition Wizard program you don't even have to mess with booting from a CD/DVD. You make your changes and the program will tell you that you have to reboot to finish them and it will boot back into the Minitool program and make the changes for you.

How are you burning the image?.

  15. Hi Len,

I just read through the posts.

TopGun gave some good advice on the size in post #67
    153600 MB = 150 GB

I've found that if you add 2 MB to any size, then Windows displays the full 150 GB
    153602
It's not really important, it's just that I'm a bit anal retentive *Wink and I don't like seeing 149.9 when I want to see 150

As far as an optimal size goes, there isn't one. Keeping the size smaller does allow easier management and backups. I run my test systems on 40 GB and my main system at 100 GB. All of my data is stored on other partitions, so I don't need a massive Windows partition. I also have rather modest needs for programs.

I'll second TopGun's recommendation of 150 GB for Windows. If you find lots of free space after running with that for a few months, you can shrink it if you want ... or if you find that space is tight, you can grow it.

Re: PW boot - I thought I might have been mistaken about using the native Windows Burn to disc, so I double checked.
The tab I mentioned in post# 61 only appears on File Explorer if you have the ISO file highlighted/selected

    New 4TB drive install.. [IMG]

If you click the Disc Image tools / Manage tab, it expands the ribbon

    New 4TB drive install.. [IMG]

You can then press Burn, the Windows Disc Image Burner dialog opens

    New 4TB drive install.. [IMG]

    Insert a CD-R or DVD-R (don't use DVD-RW - it might not boot)
Press burn ... it should not take very long, the ISO is small.

That's all I can think of.
