    New 4TB drive install..

I don't use built in burner so I am not sure if it burns the ISO itself or burns the bootable content of the ISO. That's why I recommend
UltraISOPortable_9.6.5.paf.exe . Just download, double click, it will extract to the desktop, run it and look at the screen shot of my previous post.
    @NavyLCDR
Sure you can install it but for a one time deal, you only need it to make the change. Myself, I hate to install anything that I only need to use once. Also, if I can get a portable version of anything then I rather use that, put in a portable folder on another drive and they are available if I use another OS or dual boot.

    Hi all,

Thank you all for the help...I think I have now caused more problems. As the disks did not work, I downloaded them again...And...All my own stupid fault...Not sure which one of the programs...But I clicked on download and up came pop ups like you have never seen..Ads for supermarkets, Tesco, Asda, and Sainsburys, I tried to get out of it, but kept getting the same message are you sure you want to leave this page. Win £500 next page win £5000 are you sure you want to leave this page...I could not get out of this loop..In the end it beat me..I just pulled the plug....It has taught me a lesson to pay attention on what I click on...So today...I will format the harddrive, I cant take any chances just in case I have picked up something..I hate that cliche "lessons will be learnt" but in this case I have.!!!

    Regards.....Len ........sent from my tablet...

  3. That's what I meant by double checking ... When I read maybe you copied the ISO to disc..., I thought "Oh no, I gave bad advice" but using the native burn-to-disc created the proper bootable PW 9.1 (as I thought it would - phew!)

I recommend the CD/DVD/Flash route because managing a system drive is always better with Windows out of the way. Files are not in use and the process is quicker.

I also use PW on many machines, so the CD works best for my needs.

Yep, one misClick can get you a boatload of trouble. It's very common, don't beat your self up too much, but do be more careful in the future. Some sites make it hard to figure out the good from the bad, often the bad download buttons look the same as the download button for the software you really want.

This just costs you time - no big deal really... consider it practice *Wink

The easiest thing to do is boot the Win10 install media, press Shift F10 at the first screen and enter the following commands in the Cmd window. You only have one HDD, so I don't have to guess the drive #

    diskpart
    sel dis 0
    clean
    exit

Press the X on the Cmd window to return to the install.

You'll probably end up with the same disk schema so you'll still need a bootable PW.

We can cover those bases when you get Win10 re-installed.

    Hi Bill,

Oh Yes a valuable lesson learned....I now know it was not the Mini it was the other one....So If I am going to get the same disk schema does that mean I will have to make the bootable DVD to shrink the c: drive??? If so is there any way to delete all the partitions and start from scratch??

I will get this PC sorted ................................................................*Drink1one day
Thanks for all your help -Len

  6. I thought about pre-allocating the space, but I'm not certain if the other partitions will get properly created.

I know that they will on a clean drive. So rather than test it on your machine, just let the install do what it needs.

Then yes, the bootable Minitool Partition Wizard (PW) will be used to shrink C:

You might want to spend a few pounds on a small USB flash drive. Staples, here, in the States, has 16 and 32 GB PNY thumb drives on sale (6 & 12 USD respectively). Why? I think you might be running out of DVDs *Wink

Think about the programs and data on your previous drive - about how much space did you use for each. An estimate is good enough.

I'll get a 3rd cup of coffee and write up a preliminary schema on what I know now. Don't worry about specifics, you'll be a disk schema expert when all of this is done and be able to create or change partitions in your sleep.
If so is there any way to delete all the partitions and start from scratch??

Yes, that's what all of this does. The CLEAN command wipes the drive.

  8. New 4TB drive install..

Ok Len, Take it step by step - ask any questions

All of the steps are in your thread,

    Here's a simple outline

    1) Clean install Windows 10
The instructions to wipe the drive are in post# 79
    Then just continue the install

    2) Creating a bootable miniTool PW disc instructions can be found in post# 73

    3) Resizing the C: partition instructions can be found in TopGun's post# 58

Good luck - post your progress or questions.

    Hi Bill and all,

Just to let you know I am a very happy bunny, all complete it did make the same disk schema and I wasted two more disks, but hey not to worry I have 95 more to try lol....No Seriously, what I did, I downloaded the minitool partition program NOT BOOTABLE!!!!! and took a chance, I thought if I cocked it up I can always restore again...However, I just installed, don't know if this was the correct way, but there was a split partition option, so I took that one, I made it around 350 I have plenty of room on the disk....Just slid the sliders to this size pressed apply and restart, worked like a dream, also saved me another couple of disks, I can highly recommend this option if like me you don't want to wastes disks that is...Well they are not wasted I will hang them up in the garden to scare the birds away from my strawberries......

So, happy to mark this one SOLVED and I would like to thank you all for all the help that you gave me....

I hope you are enjoying the weekend...

    Best regards - Len

  10. Excellent Len!

Just as with the proverbial feline ...

Glad you figured out to use the installed MiniTool PW ... I recommend the bootable only when System partitions are involved. But either way, PW is a great tool. You also decided to use the split partition operation - good man!

The move/resize operation can work in a similar fashion ... move the slider to the size you want. This operation leaves free space instead of another partition (resize, not a split). As I said ... a million ways to skin ....

It has so far been a wonderful weekend, capped off by hearing your good news.

Congratulations Len, you are now a techie *Wink

    Hi Bill,

Thanks Bill......Just reporting back, to say Windows 10 is going great, I am really pleased it..Every thing is running how it should..
I read somewhere that Office 2010 would not work with W10..Mine is working just fine and so is Outlook...So a big thank you to you and the "Team"....

  12. You are welcome Len and all sounds well.

I was helping another member with a hyperlink issue on MSO 2010 /Outlook (OL), but I was running on memory since I don't have 2010 (trying to recall what MS did way back in OL 98 *Wink)

They said MSO 2010 was fine, except ..... for links in mail recv'd in OL 2010. The links would not open - links worked fine in all other MSO applications, just not OL and it might only be in rcv'd mail (Ctrl-click works when composing I think ????)

Could you check that on your OL?
Send yourself an eMail with a link to tenforums.com, when you recv it, see if you can open the link. If you can ... you're going to be a hero!

If you cannot launch the link, it's little comfort to know that it is a known bug. MS has changed MSHTMS a number of times over the past two or three years - that's probably the dll that is responsible for the issue.

Let me know if your OL does or does not have the open link in recv'd mail issue.

    Thanks,

    Bill

    New 4TB drive install..

    Hi Bill,

Yes of course I will help out and send an email to myself......But sorry...how do I send a link to Tensforum, is there a special email that I should?? If you or someone can send me the link, I will do it straight away...

    Regards Len

    Update...

I sent an email to myself and one to one of my other accounts.... I copied a link from Ebay and sent that, when you receive the email and click on the link, you get the option to open in Internet explorer, choose app from the store or Edge (no option for Outlook)...However, I opened the link in Edge and straight to EBay it went....So good news, yes it works OK doing it to myself will try Tensforum or anywhere else if you want me to..Just give me an email address..

    Hope this helps - Len*Smile

  14. Yes, that helps a lot Len, thank you.

After reading your post, I recalled that the issue was IE11 related (sorry 'bout that chief!)

The eBay link is good enough for the test, there's no need do try tenforums.com
But ... if you want to include an address in an email, juts grab the URL from the address bar in a broswer and paste it itno the mial item. You can also manually type a URL such as Windows 10 Help Forums into a mail item.

So, if I could impose upon you once again - run the same test that you ran with the eBay link, but choose IE11.

If you cannot choose IE11, because the default browser OL uses got set when you tested it the first time, don't worry about it. As I mentioned, it will probably require a change to MSHTML (MS has to do that) or OL has to be repaired in Pgms & Feats to correct the Side-by-Side dll reference.

I appreciate your doing this *Biggrin and apologize for not indicating the issue was IE11 related. *Redface

    Hi Bill,

Not a problem..I sent this link email to myself and I am typing from the open link so again no problem with either IE11 or Edge both works OK..Let me know of any other tests you would like to carry out....

I take you the person you are trying to help have tried:

    Start
    Command prompt admin
    sfc /scannow
    restart.

    And

This is the one that usually works for OL

    Start
    command prompt admin
    netsh
winsock reset (not reset winsock it don't work this way round)
    restart..

    And

    From OL
    file
    Options
    add-ins
    disable all
    restart OL

As I say few things to try if they have not yet tried...But knowing you, they were probably the first things you told them to do...lol..

    Regards -Len
