New BIOS Password after upgrading to Windows 10?

    Greetings,
I have an Acer Aspire 7750z, I upgraded to windows 10 from 7 ultimate.
I tried to enter the bios, I disable fast startup, then restarted from complete power down, I hit f2, I then get a prompt for the current password.
I tried my windows password, that's not it.
I never put a password on my bios, I do not understand how this happened other than windows 10 does this when installing.
    Any help would be great....

    :)

    password to boot

    Hi Scott,

It seems that you are referring to the BIOS password that appears immediately after the computer is started or restarted. When a BIOS password is set, the computer will only start Windows after that password is entered correctly. To unlock or reset the BIOS
password, you will need to get in touch with the manufacturer of your device for further assistance.

Should you have further queries, feel free to post it.

Is this a BIOS password (i.e. it appears before Windows boots), or is it a Windows password, i.e. the password request appears after Windows boots?

Windows 10 should have no impact on your bios. Are you sure that the possible request is coming from your bios? What does background screen looked like when the request appears?

    2 Screenshots or photos please

    1 of the password prompt
    And
1 of the system halt dialog

If it is the bios password, then as stated by Snakeyes, Windows is not able to disable, enable, reset or change a bios password.

You can reset a bios password in any one of three ways. But you will lose all settings and the bios will return to it's factory defaults

    • Some motherboards have a reset switch on the pcb. It can depressed with plug removed from the socket
    • Some motherboards have a jumper you which you short out to reset also with the plug removed from the socket
    • The final way is to simply remove the internal cr2032 coin-sized battery from the motherboard. You re-insert after say a minute and everything will be reset. Again unplug from wall socket first

Yeah...that sure looks like the bios password dialog lol

Here are the pages from your service manual to remove the bios battery (option #3 above). Please ensure you unplug your laptop from the wall socket. Please note that if you decide to open the case to your laptop, you have accepted full responsibility and liability for any possible losses, damage or injuries caused as a result. Thanks.

Yep, but it is curious how all of a sudden a password was assigned, I am the only person using this laptop and I know I did not put one on here.

I will reset via the internal battery removal. I will post results and see if it happens again.. lol

    Thanks in advance.

Update: The BIOS reset when removing the internal battery, the main battery and power supply. I then pressed the power button for 30 secs. replaced both batteries and power supply. Still don't understand how i got on here...
    Thanks for everyones help. *Thumbs
