Windows 10: New computer has both a microphone and headset jack, so I bought a splitter for my single...

For example, if I get close to my headset's microphone and breath, I can very clearly hear my own breathing. Muting my mic removes it so I know it is coming from my own headset. I have used a single port laptop and it works fine with that, so that is why I think the splitter I am using is causing this. Any tips or help other than just buying another splitter or dealing with the problem.

Single jack headset not working

I just bought a GXT 322 CARUS GAMING HEADSET. This headset comes with a single jack and a jack splitter.
My laptop (ASUS n551jm) has a single jack input.
Whenever I plugin my headset it won't recognize my microphone, only my headphone.

I also tried using the microphone by using the jacksplitter and only input the pink (microphone) jack. Without results.

Anyone familiar with this problem?

 

Microphone not working with combo audio jack


My laptop only has one combo audio/microphone jack, and I can't get the microphone to work at all. I just bought a new headset that came with an audio/microphone splitter specifically for the purpose of using it on this laptop. While the output works fine, the microphone input is absolutely ignored.

I am 100% positive this is an audio/microphone splitter (and not just an audio splitter) as it has 3 rings on the end of it (indicating that it is compatible with using a microphone), and one of the input jacks even has a microphone icon on it. Realtek Settings are nowhere to be found in Control Panel, and I couldn't seem to find anything in the system sound settings that would help me either.

I've already spent money on this new headset, so as you can imagine I'm pretty frustrated that this is not working, and I really, really don't want to spend any more money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Microphone not detected in combo mic/headset with single 3.55mm jack

I have a combo mic/headset with single 3.55mm jack to plug into my tower. The PC has separate inputs for speakers and microphone. When plugging the single jack I have into either input only that part of the combo headset works. In other words, if I plug
the only jack I have into the speaker jack I can hear through the earpieces but my microphone remains "disabled" or otherwise undetected. If I plug the only jack I have into the microphone, I am assuming it is detected, but since I can't hear, I have't determined
that for sure. I have no other speakers; neither built-ins or accessories. So I can't just plug into the mic jack and listen through built-ins as there are none. I do NOT want to buy a splitter as the only ones I can find are 3.55mm female to dual-RCA male
converters. Additionally I know there is a way to tell the single jack to recognize both.
