I agree 100% BReeves I do almost the same thing myself. only slight difference is I use ebay more when shopping for a computer. but....Newegg also is on ebay showing some of their deals their too. I've seen lots of factory refurb's on ebay from many different computer shops. Very good prices. *Smile

Yep, I like eBay for some things but have had issues with computers, mainly poor packing and getting damaged in shipping. Also helps that we have an open account with Tiger *Smile

    Hi Guys
This is the person who began the thread.
Before we drift too far away form the first post, I have a couple of questions about the issue.
I forgot about hard drives. That drives the price up I am sure but you all probably advocate getting one and the manufacturers probably all use them these says. Get the solid state - yes?
Also, is Cyber Power a company that sells refurbs and the machines have no brand names?
I am 75 1/2 and ill so I won't be building one. Mine are old and my kids will get them after I enjoy them as long as I can.
Lastly, if I don't build would you concur that HP is the way to go. No one seems to like Dell due to OEM but mine have been trouble free since I got them almost 5 years ago. Although I had to have the first desktop serviced 4 times then replaced and the new one had hard drive failure. After that initial fiasco they have been fine.

Well I own 3 HP's computers and 2 of them are over 5 years old, and still run fine. I have upgraded all 3 over the years, adding memory, graphic cards, and of course SSD's with no problem. But I still would shop around at different computer places and not rush into picking only one store. Look around....take your time, compare prices!!! Also, I am 65 years old, so still just a baby. *Smile

I'll be 71 in January, Have had good luck with both Dell and HP. I have recommended Dell SFF computers to several customers for use in carnival kiosks with good results. Believe me carnival operators are not easy on anything.

Think the negatives mostly come from the bloatware that comes on the computers. Isn't an issue as I usually wipe the drive and do a clean installation. One reason I really like the refurbishers that provide an OS CD.

Hi Maranna, I'm close to 70 now and over the years I've owned PC's from various manufactures including three gaming rigs that were custom built for me. I always looked down on Dell because I thought they junk. That said, when I was still working, Dells were used exclusively in our office for servers, workstations, and just regular office admin use. We rarely had problems from them; they were very durable. I currently have 3 Dell desktops and 1 laptop and have never had a problem from any of them and one is more than 5 years old and used every day. I agree with the OEM comment but I'm not looking to upgrade other than adding additional drives and possibly video cards. Dell has worked for me and FYI, you can get a returned/reconditioned unit from them with a new warranty. FYI, some corporate purchases often return units unopened simply because they bought too many. You can get good deals on then as they are sold as used/reconditioned.

No it was about 3 years ago. My Speedometer goes to 160 if you watched that Video. I still had room to the floor on my gas pedal, but I backed it down 140 was fast enough.

My neighbor went through 5 HP Pavilions before she got one that worked. This was quite some time ago though.
